There is numerous research around about recruiting agencies selecting on looks and not on the rest. They even don't do it on purpose according to research. It's simply the way it goes.

ooow..as a "shy" person i often notice the trait in others. one time at work this incredibly shy customer was trying to navigate our department..the awkwardness was unbearable for me and my co-worker, and i felt so bad for him after he left.

if i was not with a co-worker i would have been much more sensitive to his needs, but the fact i was working with someone prevented me from helping him as much as I could. coming into such a crowded place is a miracle for the "socially inept". i wasnt mean to him, but i could have been a lot more accommodating, and making his trek into a stressful situation easier.
