Is Obama Burnt Out?

disappointing thread Jack.

I tend to think you can give us a real thread about policy...IF you wanted to. You seem like a really intellignet person and why you go along with the "he looks this way, he forgot his flag pin, He plays basketball, his mama was white but he has purple lips" crowd, you seem to be someone that could talk substance and have a real discussion on explaining positions without being offensive.

But you just go to the silly base of the republican well for this kind of idea and for the life of me, I cannot figure out WHY someone would think it would WORK on the average person OR why YOU with seemingly ABOVE average intelligence would not realize you are above it.

I am not an elitist. An elitist suffers from delusions of grandeur.

My question was whether Obama was burnt out -- you can look at other news articles such as the one in Politico this morning that talks about this subject. The brought up the lack of his passion for the economy and jobs and his visible passion when he spoke about religion.

One thing that Obama could learn from Reagan is his excitement about America -- leaving all politics aside. Obama would be a far better accepted person as President if he chose to be excited about the things that have made America great and spoke with passion about future of our country

I didn't see that yesterday. From what I've read and seen other didn't see it either. The job is too important to just go through the motions.

here's a link to the Politico story:

Maybe it was the chandeliered dignity of the East Room, but the fired-up Obama reverted to adjunct economics professor mode on Friday. Gone was the red-meat rhetoric as the president scanned his seven-minute introduction from large TelePrompters easily read by reporters, then calmly fielded questions from the White House press corps for the first time since late May.

Gone, too, was a warmer, more personal approach unveiled in Cleveland, in which he referred to his family’s economic struggles — and the gritty working-class values embodied by Michelle Obama’s father...

...“I understand” isn’t quite “I feel your pain,” says Jennifer Duffy of the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, who says Obama – and panicked Hill Democrats – are being hurt by his inconsistent tone on the economy.

“To borrow a phrase from Bill Clinton, the president doesn’t give people the impression that he’s ‘laser-focusing’ on the economy,” Duffy said.

I think the corollary to this is:

'Is the right wing burnt out?'

It seems that except for fanning anti-islamic sentiment, flooding the net with criminal illegal aliens and anchor babies threads and making ridiculous and false claims about the carpet in the oval office or his delivery style in a minor speech, they have nothing of positive substance to offer.

A tired leader is still at least a leader. The right doesn't even have a credible voice these days.

You've hit the nail on the head. The reason the wingnuts are making up the silliest bullshit to whine about, ie.... "the mosque that isn't a mosque at all, built on the WTC site that isn't really on it at all...., "birth certificate", "death panels", "bowing to another world leader until the Bush bowing photos were found", and other nonsense is because that's all they have!

JUBBER posters of the wingnut fringe take their marching orders from FAUX News, Pills Limbaugh, and The Palin™. They only can parrot whatever they've heard, and since the Foxpublicans have no ideas, no plans, no solutions to our problems, they can only attack others who are trying to work on those problems. Listen to 10 or 15 minutes of Pills show and it's nothing but hate, intolerance, and vapid partisan sniping.

So the JUBBERS on the right don't know what else to post, except this bullshit. They whine about the number of pages a bill has. Or that Republicans didn't get to offer enough amendments even though they'd vote "no" on the bill anyway. Or cry about Obama's birth certificate.

The Republican talking heads and politicians have made a cold, calculated, negative, choice to engage in scorched Earth politics and poisoning the well. Since the Republicans aren't running the government, they don't want anyone else to be able to run the country either. The country be damned for not electing them.

^That's very true.

And Michele's sleveless dress, the Obama's "date night", tapping their fists together, Republicans filibuster everything so they can complain that Obama isn’t doing enough, complain about deficits now but Cheney said deficits don't matter, and I can go on and on. Republicans are desperate, don't have any solutions and are attempting to swindle their way back into power.

They start ridiculous threads like these:

Another mistake in the Oval Office
Another crooked Democratic Congresswoman exposed
18% of Americans believe Obama is a Muslim
Obama determined to starve the poor
Inept Barney Frank flips out again

Petty, nonsense topics.

The Republicans really have become like football fans/followers. They blindly follow "their team" the Republicans.

Any more when I talk to people/friends that are Republicans, I get them to acknowledge, "yes there are problems that need solving, large ones even". Then I ask, "so you think Obama and the Democrats are doing the wrong things to fix these problems", to which they of course answer "yes". Then I ask, "so you think the Republicans will do a better job", again they answer "yes". And in my final death dealing parry, I then ask, "Ok, assuming the Republicans win back control of the House and the Senate, what SPECIFICALLY do you want them to do that helps America solve the problems you just mentioned previously, that isn't just anti-Obama/Democrats? And what SPECIFICALLY do you think these answers will cost and / or do for / to America?"

At this point they go slack jawed... start "hmmm'ing" and "hawwwwing". And they have NOTHING. I'm serious! Try it the next time you run across a Republican. They have no plans, no ideas, no solutions.

"Excitement about America" is an excellent phrase. Bush showed it occasionally, I've seen it a few times from Obama, but Reagan had it all the time. That translated into public morale, which is something we could use a large dose of right now.

Another crooked Democratic Congresswoman exposed

I kept waiting for the pics. If she was 'exposed', there should be pics, right? :p

So let me get this straight. You, and Jacks, think that America needs an "actor" to give America a "rah rah" rally? You're saying that if American's get some "team spirit" all will be cured and be better? Seriously? Come on! That's ridiculous! It's phony in the extreme as you openly admit! You think Americans need to be lied to, and manipulated into getting some faux pride and pseudo ego stroking. Tragic!

But honestly, that's all the Republicans have these days. They can run on the mantra of, "hey at least we'll make you proud to be an American while we fuck you up the ass without lube, and leave you with an STD". Unfuckingreal. ](*,)

But that means you support the view that I've seen from so many dinosaurs in America who are in their late 40's, 50's, and early 60's, that lament their plot in life now that being a str8, white, suburbanite, xtian, male, doesn't come with its huge privileges and automatic ticket to an upper-middle class lifestyle if not upper-class of days 'yore. "Them days" are over, and these people are bitter, angry, and desperately trying to sow hate & some other website in blaming gays, women, minorities, urbanites, and non-xtians for their lot in life. Their gentlemen's "Cee" in community college or university isn't cutting it anymore. My heart bleeds (not) for these racists.

If you want, you can choose doom and gloom for the future.

I'll take the road of hope. While things may not be the best for everyone and we may not get everything we want --- it can still be a good life.

You sound like there is something bad going on in your life or have gotten hurt. I hope you start to feel better.

Life should not revolve around politics and who gets elected.

No, I'm a realist not some fanciful old, white, guy longing for days of yesteryear. I have a fantastic job, and my life is amazing. It's far better than what I deserve and I'm thankful for it every day. I also have a wonderful guy in my life right now, who makes me laugh and smile every day we spend together. I'm extremely lucky!

If it's anything in American politics that anger me, it's seeing one of the world's greatest countries squander it's limited time and money on worthless endeavors that will hinder and stunt those generations behind me. They will be left with a legacy of debt and horrific decisions to deal with, all the while falling behind the rest of the world year by year.

I believe in taking an honest look at yourself, and not patting yourself undeservedly on the back. America is losing ground....fast! Is this "bitter"? No. It's grounded in facts and reality. You can wish upon a star all you want Jack and think your life is peachy keen as the nation around you collapses with nothing other than a positive attitude. But I believe in being honest & forthright in what we need to do as a nation so that blind allegiance and denial aren't required when looking at / discussing the United States.

? ? ?

That has little to do with my post, which said we could use a dose of morale. Feeling scared and doomed certainly doesn't help things.

After listening to most of and watching some of Obama's press conference today,it appeared to me that he looked tired, uninterested and even upset at times, and found it difficult to stay focused.

His also had an unusual cadence in his delivery -- an exaggerated Captain Kirk rhythm more so than his normal. I also got the impression that he might have been ill. I guess Presidents do get ill and/or have bad days too. (I didn't even mention the teleprompter.)

Before all you liberals go nuts. I want our President - the leader of the free world to look good -- be respected for his decisions and how he presents himself -- no matter what party he represents.

My gut feeling is that he is overwhelmed and doesn't know what to do about the current economic crisis. He doesn't seem to be able to offer any ideas except taxes for the rich and more spending.

Going through the motions without your heart in it can't last long.

We need a leader now more than ever. A leader who believes in capitalism and the strength and power of the American people.

Obama is a capitalist numb nuts.. he believes in the system of money.. thats capitalism. Socialism and communism is a higher society without money and religion, the two most destructive things in the world.

Well, I'll be darned.

On his radio show on Friday, Rush Limbaugh remarked how slowly Obama was speaking during his press conference. More than remarked, really, he went on for over an hour about it.

During that hour, he also spoke about how tired Obama looked - like an "insignificant man-boy" I believe was his quote.

Then, he talked about how Obama was speaking in a cadence that reminded him of Captain Kirk.

But, I'm sure all of this is just a coincidence. All of Rush's listeners think for themselves after all....

 Absolutely  fucking  classic! ..|

LMAO! They brag they are "dittoheads" after all, so what can you expect?

I'll see a 2 or 3 minute clip from Becktard, Pills Limbaugh, or Bill'O The Clown, and sure enough within minutes forums across the net are being posted to with the nonsense that was just spewed by the parrot's hero.

Asking if the guy is brunt out is whining?

I've got a stake in the success of our country. I care about where we're going.

It's not about politics to me. It's about my country and my life.

Obama has to be a cheer leader for America. Can you agree with that?

Jack, see what happens when you bring up a simple little thing that wasn't bashing Obama but just stating what you noticed about his exuberance? You get attacked by little bedwetters who are used to having their sad little asses kissed. Don't waste your time explaining yourself to these children. They're honestly not worth it. They expect gay men to all think alike about every political issue. And apparently they expect you to be quiet unless they give you permission to do otherwise. Thank you Jack for not putting your political party, whatever it may be,before America. These people who attack other gay men for not being followers are the true"self loathers" after all. Keep your chin up and don't worry about them. I bet when you started this thread they got a "deer in the headlights" look if you catch my drift.

and politico? are they now taking their marching orders from rush as well?

As far as being our cheerleader goes, as I've mentioned in other threads around here, a big part of our current economic problems are that everyone in the private sector is too scared to spend money right now. We need someone to take a risk on something, and so yeah, someone to try to prod us along isn't a bad idea.

and so I can try to demonstrate I'm not a blind following partisan hack, as a former debater, I used to cringe whenever Bush would speak as well. I was one of the few people who actually didn't mind Kerry's speaking style, although he still wasn't a classic orator. Gore was annoying as hell. Rhetoric and speaking skills are largely a lost art in politics today.

I'd be burned out too if I had to deal with the crap I've seen on these boards as public opinion.

Call me a Muslim? Call me a Nazi-Communist? Are you crazy? Get a life.

I rarely listen to Rush Limbaugh. I did not listen to him at all last week.

You must be a regular listener or read the bullet points of his program on some blog.

If you doubt me about his manner of speaking -- I'm sure you can find a copy of his press conference on the web. Listen to it with an open mind.

For some reason many liberals think that all people who don't share their ideology get a daily set of talking points. Do you have access to the source?

Presidents of the USA have always taken a lot of heat.

The only thing that has changed is that we have instant communication. A lot of that "instant communication however does not come with the proper thought process.

Again .... it was on Truman's desk as a reminder to himself. The original is at the Truman Library in Independence, MO.

If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Life is tough. Maybe Obama should buy one for himself -- maybe you should too. I have it printed and framed in my office.
