Is Quicktime cool?

The wierd part of QuickTime vs Windows media player is that QuickTime was originally the standard. Then MSFT decided they wanted some of the action and a judge ultimately said that having 2000 consecutive identical lines of code (in WMP) was not a coincidence. Well Bill and the boys did the Walmart thing* and produced a copy for the Mac but havent updated since March '05. Now we need Flip for Mac to run stuff in .wmv format.

*they opened two stores, got rid of the competition and then closed one of them
 
Now if I download Quicktime will it 'takeover' my Windows Media Player'...?
I ask this because once when I downloaded RealPlayer that seemed to take over WMP, and it was only much later some software helper helped me get WMP back up

I.e, everytime I downloaded a video or music,
And I would get notices I needed WMP. RP was the format, instead of there being a choice

Not being comp savvy, that threw me a bit
 
quicktime won't take over anything if you don't let it. choose advanced or custom install and it will let you choose which files it associates with, just choose the quicktime files and none of the rest.

I swear, i've never seen so much hype over the installation of quicktime. Just install it and be done with it! It's not some big horrible majik program that's going to turn your computer into a toad. :roll:
