Is Rebecca Black a bigger gay icon than Madonna?

I'll argue this is worse. Voices like hers with limited power and range are very common. The arrangement is boring and too emotional. It's incredibly dull.

That's why I thought that version was great, though - it's a parody of pretentious "epic" songs, string-heavy arrangements, overwrought vocal delivery, music video cliches (mocked here too) and all. It's incredibly on-the-nose, but in not taking itself too seriously, it proves to be "charming" (as thatgirl said) on its own merits. And yes, the vocalist may not be outstanding or unique in character/timbre/technical prowess of her voice, but I'll listen to her delivery with some base ability there rather than Rebecca's auto-tuned vocal any day. :)

It's funny, I mentioned songwriter Diane Warren because she's one of the worst offenders for these big "epic" ballads, especially for her movie soundtrack songs - the overdramatic ballad that's a marketing tie-in when the movie hits (bonus points if it's a summer blockbuster movie) that everybody is so sick of a few months later! :) I would be happy to never hear "How Do I Live", "Because You Loved Me", "Faith Of The Heart" or "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" again. I think I might even prefer Rebecca ahead of hearing any of those again.
