I don't think it's dead yet, but it's taken quite a beating from the "no sense of humor" crowd

I wondered if sarcasm was dead on here years ago, until I realised there are people who simply wait to get "offended" and then complain loudly and on purpose that such and such isn't satire or sarcasm it's just offensive.

As long there will be people there will be sarcasm.

I do find an amazingly willingness to be offended but I just figured people were on here looking to vent. I would hope it is not the entirety of society.

Sarcasm, like many other similar overtones, is often very difficult to recognise in text. It's not dead. Its vital statistics aren't strong enough to register on human tricorders.

Loooove sarcasm---and not being sarcastic here. You will never please the PC police --so who gives a fuck what they think.:p

Lemme call the waaaaaaahbulance, tell them we got more people crying over the PC brigade ruining their lives.

I love both satire and sarcasm.
A sarcastic tone can also be used in that same way Deja, to point out the irony of a situation when it comes to hypocrisy for example.

Yes, it is.

See, I bet you couldn't tell I was being sarcastic there. Dead.

I prefer satire over sarcasm, as it ultimately has a purpose more than just to be acerbic or snide. Satire is aimed at improving its target by exposing its fallacy.

Oh yes? Do you reckon the people below are satirists who present an positive alternative in order to improve things?

I haven't seen much of them but I didn't see much positivity there.

Can't see the second image but I would imagine Jon Stewarts satire has inspired an entire yopung generation to have knowledge about and become involved in our system at record rates. He does point out the ignorant and contradictory in both sides of the aisle. there is just so much material on the republican side that he appears biased...

LOl ok he is biased but eradicating the republican base through education is a worthy ambition.

I tend to be an overly sarcastic person. My straight friends respond to it well and reciprocate a good dose too which I love because sometimes I am bad at spotting sarcasm which makes situations more fun. I have to keep my mouth shut around gays because there are way too many sensitive types around which gets me in trouble a lot of times if I over do it. If I am at a party one my my hags has to warn me before hand to go easy on the boys.

Sarcasm is over used on the internet, where it´s not as easy to get it, as in real life. However, a limited number of people do have a smart sarcasm and can pretty much tell someone that they can go fuck themselves without them even understanding it. But, most of the times, it´s just an insult coming from an arrogant person who hides behind (what he calls) sarcasm.
