It might be a lifestyle choice to accept or deny what was inborn, but sexual orientation is not a choice.

Yeah sorry about this tired subject again.

I'm asking for opinions on the matter as the anti-gay argument that orientation is a lifestyle choice just never seems to be put to rest.

Obviously I believe it's NOT a choice nor a lifestyle.

only choice when a choice

beside dat gay artaight bi ans rest worlds sultures full of da obvious fa eons

thankyou

may ya cock launch endless yays

Of course it is a lifestyle.

I was born a homo and I choose to live as one.

And a fabulous lifestyle it is too!!!!!

It's like left or right handedness. It's just how you are.

I choose to not only accept my sexuality, but embrace it. There is an alternative. I could choose to deny and ignore it. Would it be a lot of work? Would it make me unhappy with my life? Yes to both.

My mother always tells me this, and she is right. However it is quite selfish for her to want me to live this type of lifestyle knowing I will not be happy. I have no choice in the matter who I am attracted to.

Not at all, on the contrary, as the very vast majority of guys attracted to men and having sex with men, are married with a woman and have children.

why is this even a topic?

this is a lgbt forum, well, mostly the G and B, but, either way, everyone here knows the answer to that question intimately on here.

it always amazes me that a gay guy, like myself, who presumably has an infinitely more expansive knowledge on being gay is told that he is wrong by supposedly straight people, and that being gay is a choice.

so why even make the topic here? everyone here knows the answer, including yourself.

Why? because it is a public forum!

To ANSWER THE op'S QUESTION

The notion someone would pick a lifestyle knowing that they might lose everything they love and care about, baffles me as to how someone could believe such a thing.(Unless you are religon in which case...Batshit...)

Couldn't agree more. The only element of choice it has is if you choose to live an unhappy life by denying the fact.

opportunity for a great quote:

"I don't have a life style, I have a life."

but to the op's question -

to be blunt, I realized I was gay when I got hard when I thought of guys

and it certainly helped masturbation if I saw a pic of of a hot dude

that had nothing to do with suburb vs city, or what job I wanted

and btw, is their a true definistion of the word "lifestyle"

I always thought it was made up for political reasons

QFT

Before I answer, I wanna hear what those who chose to be straight have to say about their choice to, you know, choose to be straight.

If only that would end it.

Sexual orientation is not a choice. If it were, I'm sure people would have an easier time turning straight without the help of prayer.

Your sexual orientation, no.

How you decide to immerse yourself in the diverse culture is your business and no one elses.

For instance, club culture might not be your scene, or, you're a sporty guy rather than some stereotype.

Also, what if it was? Then what? is it wrong? On what grounds..Ask them that. I find they have no answer...rational one that is.

Good point, the only lifestyle choice involved is whether you want to remain closeted and self-loathing or not.

well, certainly it's a public forum, i'm just CURIOUS :p (lol no pun intended) why he'd bother asking. i mean, we all know, and he knows... :p

Oh give me a fucking break.

I'm a journalist who writes about issues affecting the gay and lesbian community and this is one of many. I find it a benefit to create dialogue in part to gauge what's going on in my fellow gay's minds. Part of my job is to ask even though I might already already know the answer because often I get a point of view I hadn't before considered. A few posts in this thread have already done that.

You may not know this, but whether it's a choice isn't 100% unanimous in the gay community. I haven't personally found any but I know statistically they exist. And as we know from the responses in this thread some of us consider do in fact consider it a lifestyle.

I started the thread by apologizing for bringing up an issue many people want dead (including myself) but I think I explained why I did it. Yet you still posted and subscribed to this thread.

Feel free to unsubscribe and go visit one of Fetish and Kink's poop threads if this one's so unimportant to you.

it is 100% unanimous whether it is a choice. we may not know where it comes from, whether its genetic, whether environmental factors have *anything* to do with it, etc, but we certainly all DO know that we never chose to be gay, and don't now choose to continue to be gay.

and the only gay people you'll find that disagree with that is the closet cases, and we've all been there so we can speak towards that, and the 'ex-gays,' who now have no sex at all.

i'm not saying you shouldn't be able to ask, i just question why anyone (around this forum anyways) would.
