it is 100% unanimous whether it is a choice. we may not know where it comes from, whether its genetic, whether environmental factors have *anything* to do with it, etc, but we certainly all DO know that we never chose to be gay, and don't now choose to continue to be gay.
and the only gay people you'll find that disagree with that is the closet cases, and we've all been there so we can speak towards that, and the 'ex-gays,' who now have no sex at all.
i'm not saying you shouldn't be able to ask, i just question why anyone (around this forum anyways) would.
No, it isn't 100% unanimous -- there are JUB members who believe they had a choice.
I've met a guy in a gay bar who said it was a choice for him -- he was no closet case at all.
And given the spectrum and variability of human sexuality and other aspects of personality, I can well conceive that there is a small portion of the population for whom it is in fact a choice -- maybe one in ten thousand. And the choice may be made in ways that aren't obvious, just as with disorders such as bipolar disorder, where some people are balanced and can go either way, but what determines the direction tends to be their choices -- they don't even know that's a choice they're making, but it's still a choice.
I think you are 100% correct that it isn't a choice but I think you are 100% incorrect that it unanimous in the gay and lesbian community. According the the American Psychological Association (APA) most -- not all -- homosexuals insist it's not a choice. I've also heard about and read about gays who think it's a choice. How common it is I don't know hence me probing for opinions.
I agree the reason isn't known. If I were to guess I'd say it's a natural genetic variation widespread in the animal kingdom (that includes us.) But the unanimous part, think again. We're probably talking a small minority of us but still that's enough to fuel homophobic fire.
Actually it appears the ones we tend to find are not closet cases but people who make their situation a little too known, unfortunately. Again, it feeds homophobic fire.
It seemed like you were saying that it was stupid for me to ask. I understand you were not coming at me with mod/admim authority. Cheers.
