Is temporary amnesia a seizure?

I have epilepsy and am well medicated. I take lamicatal 300 mg a day. It works great. But on and off (more recently) I have random moments where I don't know where I am or don't know anybody around me. Today I was in the car with a friend who I've known for years going to a white castle drive thru. I felt very confused and dizzy, I didn't even know who my friend was or where I was. I felt so confused and she said I wouldn't respond. I heard her calling me but I was just in my own world. About 2 min later I remembered who she was and couldn't figure out why that happened. Could it be a seizure? I see my neurologist in two weeks.

Hope you get treated soon. My migraine which had stopped for about a year just suddenly came back these two weeks. The back of my head burns and just feels so uncomfortable that I can't even concentrate properly. I have been taking meds but doesn't help much. I paid my for my groceries today but almost forgot to take them until the counter lady called. Considering to get my brain scanned even though my neurologist thinks its nothing.

My ex had epilepsy. He would have non-convulsive seizures which means that he would stiffen up like a board and would not be able to talk or move for varying periods of time. He also had periods of 'amnesia'. He would forget who I was and all of a sudden not remember anything of the last several years. He would start asking me questions about friends and places from years ago, when I was not a part of his life. It was creepy but I got used to it. I would just calmly talk him through these events whenever they happened and wait for it to pass, which it always did. It never seemed to last for very long, maybe a half hour at the most. I certainly wish you the best in finding out more about it.

petit mal seizures can do that, and the seizure can be unnoticed if you are alone when it occurs.

As always with all these online "doctors"..I say one thing "Go see a doctor!!!!" FFS - has the nameless guy on the other side of your life with an internet conection become your health care professional?

We can all Google the symptoms and post links like Ron, but please - go see a professional when it comes to your life....

I take it this has never happened before? Whenever you experience an episode like this, you should contact your neurologist immediately. He might opt to move your appointment up or put your mind at ease about what happened.

One other thing--you aren't taking any other drugs (legal or illegal) that could cause this?

"Dr. Sixthson....... yea" go see a f#@%^#ng medical doctor!. The internet is good for e-mail, videos about cats, news and simple romance advice - that is it - nothing more.

Well I will say this to kris... At only one point did I have a memory loss issue, and I went to the hospital. It was a very mild stroke that left me with the inability to tell right from left.

I still have to look for the wedding band to know which way is left. As a matter of fact, I was told that if I had gone to hospital sooner, permanent damage may have been avoidable.

We seem to be in agreement.

I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure it's nothing.

Sounds like a petit mal or absence seizure. They typically present as you described. Consult your doctor about uping your dose or adding a second seizure med. Good luck!
