Is the Scam Calls getting worse?

In Spain an maybe elswhere we have Mr. Number. If A Scam call comes in it is automatically blokced!

Not so much a spam phone call as a spam e-mail. I seem to get at least one a day from the United States Postal Service stating that they've been unable to make a delivery and could I provide them with some personal information ](*,) Jeeze. . .they know where I live for pete's sake. They don't need personal information from me. All they have to do is camp outside my front door and ambush me :rotflmao:

Yes they are getting worse.

Even with the do not call....we now get repeat calls from the same 'Google' listing scam every day.

Sorry but reading the thread title is driving me crazy.

ARE the scam calls ......

Awww, one of the areas I grew up in started with a single meter maid named Tillie, she was a bit of a legend. There's still only one meter maid though, and Ye Olde Internet says the fine is only $3.

For telemarketers I try very hard to get a person, let them go through their spiel, then have them remove the number from the list if the fuckers don't immediately hang up.

I tried that when before they had a computer system calling me they either hang up or try to argue. There was a girl and she kept saying "Do you want better health insurance" "Do you want cheaper health insurance i can get you you a great deal" I scream on the phone until they hang up or say daddy fuck me yes daddy that feels good.

this happens for a very specific reason. I dont have this problem cuz, ya know, I get how the modern world works.

^ Those calls are most common for me, and always with an East Indian voice.

The credit calls offering credit cards at reduced rates are all recorded voices and, whether you press 1 to talk to a representative or press 2 to remove yourself from the call list, you still end up talking to a representative. According to the CRTC (Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission), it's not really a scam. You DO get a credit card for which you pay a fee, but the interest rate is much higher than they claim and probably higher than the interest you're paying on your current card.

I used to get the holiday calls as well, but none for a very long time. Are they still 'out there'?

Wow! I just won the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes twice in one month!

FTC shuts down four major robocall operations

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced today that it shut down four separate robocall operations responsible for placing billions of illegal robocalls. The four organizations responsible for the calls agreed to settlements with the agency. Under those agreements, the companies will no longer be able to make robocalls or use automatic dialers to place calls, effectively barring them from the telemarketing business.

The four organizations involved in the FTC crackdown include:
NetDotSolutions, a massive robocalling operation that pitched unsuspecting consumers everything from auto warranties to home security systems and supposed debt-relief services. The company was accused of leaving unlawful prerecorded messages, calling numbers on the Do Not Call registry and using spoofed caller ID to trick consumers into picking up. The company faces a $1.35 million fine.
Higher Goals Marketing, a company that used robocalls to promise consumers it could lower their credit card interest rates. The operators of Higher Goals Marketing were previously part of another robocall operation, Life Management Services, that was shut down by court order. The organization received a $3.15 million fine as part of the recent settlement.
Veterans of America, perhaps the scummiest of the operations involved in the FTC's sting. The company was part of an alleged charity scam run by Travis Deloy Peterson that convinced people to donate cars, boats, and other things of value. Peterson is accused of selling those items and keeping the profit. He now faces a fine of just under $550,000.
Pointbreak Media, a company that is accused of falsely claiming to represent Google in an attempt to get small businesses to purchase services that would improve their page rank and position in search results. The company had no real affiliation with Google. The company was hit with a $3.62 million fine.
