Is The Surviving Boston Marathon Terrorist an "Enemy Combatant?"

I can't remember the original source, and shame on me for not posting the link originally but:

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/boston-marathon-bomber-shot-himself-1846637

and a lot of other sources as well.

Why did he try this instead of a 'martyrs' death? Because he was a coward. Because he had no convictions behind his crime. This, perhaps more than any other action, shows that all of this was likely some nasty little piece of personal revenge.

I hadn't seen that report. But it begs the question. What and where was he bleeding from that let law enforcement report he was bleeding all day and how was blood on the exterior of the boat and low to the ground enough that it alerted the owner to the presence of some activity on his boat and he then subsequently reported seeing a bloody body in his boat?

Something doesnt jive...

Now using your fingers touch your voice box, okay? Now use your other hand a simulate a gun in your mouth. WHO commits suicide by putting a gun in their mouth and shooting towards their crotch? I know he was insane but he was premed... surely he knows which direction his brain is.....

I have one curiosity with the name. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. When the first name is spoken, it is unrecognizable. Same with the last name. Would it be Hockhar Sarnav, or something else. Zokhar Sarnav?

Joe-car char-ney-ev seems to about the way it is being pronounced, but that may only be other guesses.

He wasn't a very good student.

He was no doubt wounded the night before, but may have decided when he finally realized he wasn't going to escape to put the gun in his mouth. His aim may have been jarred by gunfire or he may have not known to shoot far up and got the angle wrong. The kid is a complete fuck-up.

Or much like everything else in this past week we have 99% speculation and rumor .9 % misinformation and .1 % grain of truth.

No, it's "Jokar" with the "J" of "joker" and "Tsarnev" with the "TS" from Chinese names like "Tsang". That "ts" is is one letter in languages in that area (Bulgarian has it too), and the "J" is a combination of two letters, one of which doesn't exist even as a sound in English.

Glen Greenwald makes an important point on the use of the word 'terrorism' in this case.

Whether something is or is not "terrorism" has very substantial political implications, and very significant legal consequences as well. The word "terrorism" is, at this point, one of the most potent in our political lexicon: it single-handedly ends debates, ratchets up fear levels, and justifies almost anything the government wants to do in its name. It's hard not to suspect that the only thing distinguishing the Boston attack from Tucson, Aurora, Sandy Hook and Columbine (to say nothing of the US "shock and awe" attack on Baghdad and the mass killings in Fallujah) is that the accused Boston attackers are Muslim and the other perpetrators are not. As usual, what terrorism really means in American discourse - its operational meaning - is: violence by Muslims against Americans and their allies.

Never the less, the ts ends up sounding to our ears like ch. we are agreed on the first name.

I suppose... still find it hard to believe... maybe as the coward he is he couldnt even follow through with that process and jerked at the last moment.

Re: Is The Surviving Boston Marathon Terrorist an "Enemy Combatant?"

To the thread question as previously posted... he will not be treated as a combatant. He will be charged with using a device of mass destruction and death while using a device of mass destruction.

Thanks, that makes sense. Now I need to repeat it about 20 ties and see if I remember it later. Thanks

Get a hold of yourself Becky!

Every report that I've read about the suspect now in custody says that he's a Legal American.

aka An American Citizen.

The last time that I trusted my Government is when Bush said that Saddam Hussein had "weapons of mass destruction."

$1.7 TRILLION DOLLARS, and nearly 5,000 American lives later, and a country more dived than ever, and for the wrong reasons, so as an American I'm not that quick or willing to believe that they've made this case yet.

Don't let your emotions overload your willingness to chuck the U.S. Constitution and our laws.
I'm not willing to chuck our Constitution. Note that I said he was a citizen, but I don't believe he ever considered himself to actually be an American, and neither should we. He is of course entitled to the protections that his citizenship brings.
