Is there a song that can make you cry?

Nine Inch Nails- Right Where it Belongs

What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection
Is it all you want it to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks?
Would you find yourself
Find yourself afraid to see?

Alright, don't make [STRIKE]too much[/STRIKE] fun of me. Its the lyrics that do it for me.

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlJYsX8iJjU&feature=related[/ame]

(Verse 1)
Through wind and rain we got here
Now we're flying babe with no fear
We've been doing pain for so long
But when I stare in your eyes it's all gone

Through wind and rain we burn bright
Learned to fly through flames and hold tight
Been so many ways to go wrong
But when I look in your eyes they're all gone

(Chorus)
And in my dreams it feels like we are forty stories tall
When you're around, ooooh we're untouchable
And in my dreams it feels like we aren't ever gonna fall
We're safe and sound and we're untouchable

(Verse 2)
It's only real when you're not around
I'm walking in the rain the sun goes down (oh, oh)
And only love can save us now
I need you here again to show me how (oh, oh)

I know that love shouldn't be so hard
And sometimes we're standing in the dark
But you light up everywhere I go

And I know a heart shouldn't beat so hard
And sometimes we're swimming with the sharks
But you light up and keep me out the cold

(Chorus)

(Verse 2)

(Chorus)

Whenever you're gone, gone
They wait at the door
And everything's hurting like before
Without any meaning
We're just skin and bone
Like beautiful robots, dancing alone
(Repeat)

(Chorus)

Sometimes
I watch you when you're sleeping
I wonder what you're feeling
Both wide awake and dreaming
Of yesterday

I want you
To kiss away the tensions
The issues never mentioned
With all the best intentions
But you turn away

(Chorus)
Oh baby if you find
I'm not the loving kind
I'll buy you flowers
I'll pour you wine
Do anything, to change your mind
I know, you may be disinclined
To find the love we've left behind
So kiss me then make up your mind
I'm not the loving kind

I'd do anything
Sing songs that lovers sing
If I could change your mind
Am I not the loving kind?
(Repeat)

Somewhere on a Monday morning
In the rush hour of another day
Standing on a crowded platform
Carelessly we lost our way

(Repeat first verse)

(Chorus x2)

I'm from Texas so I certainly love me some Geo.Strait myself.

Hi bb, **butt out hugs/kiss kiss** George is frickin' awesome! I sometimes put on hours of my favorite GS tunes just to drive everyone crazy. And you know what? They end up loving it too! True story...

and for different reasons, but still gets me:

I won't tell. Thank goodness you didn't post it on a chat forum or anything(wipes brow with relief).

Tidimus that old Collin Raye song can get me too. The first time I heard it was not too long after my Mom died, so it's kinda mixed up with that.

This is a great topic/thread! Crying is healthy, and as guys we're taught NOT to do it.

Anyway, there are many songs that bring me to tears, here are a few.

Blower's Daughter (I Can't take my eyes off of you) - Damien Rice

The Living Years - Mike and the Mechanics

One Sweet Day - Boyz to Men/Miriah Carey

Don't Take the Girl-Tim McGraw

Falling Slowly-Glenn Hansard

The Beautiful Ones - Prince

The Cross - Prince

Both Sides Now - Joni Mitchell

Change is Gonna Come - Sam Cooke

Heaven is 10 zillion light years away - Stevie Wonder

Love Vigilantes - Iron and Wine

Come to Me (Peace) - Mary J. Blige

This song -- for reasons too personal to go into -- except to say, at this time of year at the beach, when the summer people pack up and leave for the winter, and the birds start to fly South (especially the Canada geese in formation), I get a little wistful...

Sandy Denny (her beautiful song -- solo, accoustic version):

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oBMDcLf6WA&feature=related"]Who Knows Where the Time Goes?[/ame]

The next 'video' is of Sandy Denny with her band at the time, Fairport Convention, performing the song in 1968 (from the album Liege & Leaf, accompanying guitar solos by Richard Thompson). In addition, there is at least one version on YouTube -- also good -- of her and her previous band, the Strawbs, doing the song (from 1967), as well as an accoustic demo recording, predating that version (marred only when, towards the end, she breaks a string on her guitar), but believe it or not, I've edited this post for excessive length.

A rare, live recording of a BBC Radio performance by Fairport Convention -- Symonds on Sundays, September 2, 1969:

Lastly, just one of many notable, cover versions of the song -- by a brilliant singer, who similarly died much too young -- but which also includes versions by Judy Collins (who had a hit with it in the early 1970s), and others by Mary Black, Kate Rusby, Nanci Griffith, Nina Simone and Cat Power.

I hope everyone enjoys my offering -- or else, just call me a sentimental fool!

Staind-Safe Place

I mean the best with what I say
It doesn't always sound that way
I never learned to work things out
Cause in my family all we ever seem to do is shout

Made love to my ex while this song was playing. Made me teary eyed back then, makes me full out cry now.

I saw the Offspring in concert a while back and while they were playing Gone Away I just started crying. I didn't even realize it until afterward because it just reminded me of how I felt when my dad had passed away when I was younger.

Maybe in another life
I could find you there
Pulled away before your time
I can't deal it's so unfair

And it feels
And it feels like
Heaven's so far away
And it feels
Yeah it feels like
The world has grown cold
Now that you've gone away

Leaving flowers on your grave
Show that I still care
But black roses and Hail Mary's
Can't bring back what's taken from me

"Oh Father" - Madonna
Nice selection nyc

Funny how it can just hit you all at once, almost like an involuntary reaction. It's a reflex in some ways I think.

I selected Coal Miner's Daughter and I'll explain why.
My little sister passed away a couple years ago, and when I went with my mother to her boyfriend's house after the funeral, he asked me to grab him a plastic bag from a drawer where they kept them in a huge bundle. It was like a cloud of white Wal-Mart bags when I opened the drawer hehe. Long Story short....I reached in and the first bag I pulled out had something in it.

I looked and there were 2 new Loretta Lynn CDs still sealed. I showed Lenny(my sissy's BFF) and he said Brandy wondered where they were and then forgot about them.

My sister had bought them a couple months before she died and never got to hear them play. Len gave them to me. And even though I'd rather much rather listen to Soundgarden or Mudvayne, I played Coal Miner's Daughter when I got home.

I balled like a little baby, and have ever since whenever I hear that song. It'll forever be tied to the thought that my little sister missed that moment to do something as simple as hear a song. Breaks my heart. I miss her so bad.

So although it's a goofy song, it's full of heart and soul.

In the Summer time we didn't have shoes to wear
But in the Winter time we'd all get a brand new pair
From a mail order catalog, money made from selling a hog
Daddy always managed to get the money somewhere

Just for some creditability after the cheese fest I posted, I offer this.

I know its been posted before, but this is the demo version which in my opinion has much more vulnerability and heart in her vocals.
