Bullying is public enemy #1 now.

But is there a connection between bullying and suicide?

We can debate this to thy kingdom come.

But instead of debate lets have a poll.

Have you ever contemplated/attempted suicide because you were bullied?

I voted no.

I'd say this is the kind of thing that would have to be evaluated on a case by case basis, but generally speaking, i'm sure there is a pretty good connection.

And no, I've never been bullied.

I think it's more a function of there being lack of support for those being bullied.

I question the basis of this poll.

It's easy to tally the dead but not to quantify the bullying. Is it physical, verbal or mental?

Some suspect they are bullied when none was intended. Some people imagine it and others claim to have suppressed it.

Probably, but I think a lack of support system and indiffrence from others is the bigger purporter

I can appreciate why some parents spend the money on private schools or have 'home-schooling'.
Kids here have won up to a million dollars compensation for bullying claims.

I think a lot of the problem is not with the bullying itself, but with a lack of support. People can easily deal with bullying if they have support from their friends and family... but kids who don't easily make friends are the ones that get picked on. And often, the reason they don't make friends is because they never learned real social skills form their parents, who are probably fairly distant.

I wasn't bullied in middle school, but there were points where I didn't have any friends. None. It gets pretty miserable going through every day knowing that no one would notice if you just didn't show up to school. In highschool I had to deal with a little crap from some stupid people, but it was easy to laugh off because I had started to make friends. If I hadn't had them... I don't know what would have happened.

So yeah. My point is that bullying is not so bad normally, but when the weakest kids get picked on, they have no one to depend on.

I was bullied in HS because I was drifter/loner. I hung out in a lot of cliques but didn't really belong to a particular one although I was most identified as a geek. It at least made me a well rounded individual as an adult. I did go to therapy for most of Catholic high school but between the bullying (which eventually stopped by senior year), dealing with being gay and all the other regular teenage crap, it was almost a necessity. I doubt without the support of therapy and medication in HS, I would have been worse off.

Honestly speaking, there is a MUCH stronger correlation that the bullied will eventually become the bully as an act of revenge when they are adults.

Bullying is the problem. Kids not having support systems does impact the outcome of bullying but doesn't address the root cause of the issue, the bully.

So it's only bad if someone dies?
Some suspect they are bullied when none was intended. Some people imagine it and others claim to have suppressed it.

The thing with bullying is that it's different for everybody. The needs of one person is not the needs of another. For that reason, people need to be treated as the individuals they are. One kid could very well laugh it off, one kid may not. The person doing the harassing is the one who needs to think about what their actions may cause.
Some people imagine it

Then these people need to be examined. An understanding of why they believe they have been bullied is needed to either dispel the belief or find the claim truthful.

I'm not going to vote because i don't know.

In Japan some people suicide because the pressure of work ?

And the suicide bombers feels the pressure of loosing their culture/believes ?

I never seriously thought about suicide from bullying, but I decided at an early age I'd never let anyone emotionally close because of it. Unfortunately I've been true to my word.

For some it is. You can only be humilated, taunted and teased for so long before it becomes more than you can bear.

thanks everyone for sharing.

Bullying is INSIDIOUS......

.........and there is a STRONG link to suicide.

What the hell? No person accidentally bullies another! When somebody's an arse-wipe, it is deliberate. And I'm fairly certain that most of the teachers and parents here will agree with me when I say that kids learn very early how to injure with accuracy and deftness. Most have practiced their 'innocent' facial expressions and denials to perfection, but the fact is that the bull-shit meter usually rings at 500 decibels when these bullies try to distance themselves from the injuries they cause.

A question for everyone who voted bullying made them suicidal.

Was the HARDSHIPS of bullying ALONE that made you suicidal?

Or...was it bullying in CONJUNCTION with other problems that made you suicidal?

I decided to close people off as well. I did it too well, actually. Now that I'm older I'm rewiring myself to 'allow people into my world', as my mom worded it. It's been a slow process, but I quickly began seeing the results.

I think its fairly obvious that bullying can lead to suicidal thoughts. If your self-worth and quality of life are in shambles then you may no longer possess the ambition or drive to improve your condition. I was fortunate enough to have strong enough desires and drive, as well as a support system strong enough to snap me out of my depression.

The problem is when people who don't have those things have been beaten down enough to take that final step. I use the word 'rewiring' because once your mind has been told something for so long then you have literally structured it to behave in that mode. You have to work to change it.

yeah dat bit a world a thang

since lot folk live over 100 easy lot folk in world shut down cause humans no run countrys ans rest all world know ans much is not say cause this internet
