Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has said September's EuroPride parade in Belgrade will not go ahead.

Mr Vucic's announcement comes after thousands of people marched in protest against the event earlier this month.

The president said he was not happy with the decision, but that Serbia had to concentrate on other issues, including trouble in Kosovo.

The parade organisers have said the parade will go ahead anyway, with any ban "illegal".

It is only a sign of things to come in the RuZZiaphilic back-sliding countries like Serbia.

Although as he indicates...they will likely be abck at war with Kosovo this fall, so there's that.

People who go to such great lengths to protest things that make them slightly uncomfortable but ultimately have no effect or consequence on them must live very small, sad lives.

they're products of propaganda. we're a very trainable species, no different from the animals at seaworld. we'll clap and turn around in circles for fish and if you give us somebody to hate for even the flimsiest reason you can light the fuse and watch sparks fly. it's weird to think some of these countries with instability have been going at it since i've been born and they're not even slowing down.

Isn't that what we're seeing right now? In Russia, the middle east and MAGA country? IMHO we were on a slow crawl towards civilization, hadn't reached it yet, and currently are taking several steps backwards like we forgot something.

That's how it goes.

Since Kansas, I'm a little more optimistic. We'll see what happens this november.

I don't know that this is necessarily a sign of things to come. Eastern European countries generally have historically been and remain socially conservative (or homophobic or just plain backward depending on how diplomatic one wishes to be) and the latest story from Serbia should therefore come as no surprise to anyone. What should come as a surprise is the EU's willingness to admit Serbia as a member, but sadly that's no surprise either.
