I just went home from college this weekend to come out to my parents and everything went amazingly well. They're 100% supportive. I'm at college right now, and everyone here is awesome about it too.

Well, I was in the shower a couple minutes ago, doing ummmm.... shower things, and when I finished up, I passed out for a few seconds. I lost my hearing for a couple minutes too. After I regained myself, I threw up.

Everything's going great, why are my nerves still acting up on me? Is this normal?

Ummm I would defintly ask someone about that, if you're "shower things" did that - maybe you're mal nurished or not getting enough sleep lately? or it could have been food posioning....stress.....dude it could be a million things.

I would defintly consult a doctor.

Well it's not supposed to happen, so no it's not normal.

However, with everything going on you fainted.

If it happens more, I'd seek a doctor.

Sounds like something worthy of a medical visit, so get it checked out.

It could be your nerves, but if it's something more serious, then it'd be a shame not to get it checked out while you can.

It is not uncommon to get yourself worked up about something like coming out because you really don't know if it is going to well or not and can effect the rest of your life if it goes badly.

Once you and your body realise that all is well it can release the built up tension by being sick, fainting or crying (you get my drift). But it is still worth getting it check by a doctor if you like and had you not had the small and joyful task of coming out then I would have told you to see a doctor immediately.

Well this is a conundrum this one. If i had to guess i'd say that because of your state (the fact that you were sexually aroused and having an orgasm, which enhances bloodflow quite a bit) and the fact that you were in an extremely hot (temperature) environment, probably means you have a bit of heatstroke. When you orgasmed, you tipped your body over a physiological balance, and passed out.

Now the hearing loss, that scares me a little bit, because that can mean there are more serious issues (perhaps even unrelated to this event, something you just became aware of because of this). I know it's embarassing, but i think it's worthy of at least seeing your doctor about. There's no need to reveal your sexuality to him/her at this point, simply that you were masturbating in the shower (which is common, he/she won't be surprised) and that you passed out, suffered hearing loss, etc... and see what he/she says.

Its called a Vasovagal episode. You probably felt nauseous and cold and sweaty too. A lot of things can trigger one, such as the sight of blood. If it keeps happening, see your doctor.

Your nervousness is to be expected. A part of you is still waiting for the roof to fall in and the world to end after coming out. It will take some time before you will be comfortable trusting that everyone really is ok with you being gay. Just take it day by day. And Congrats on coming out!

You fainted and got water in your ears. If you felt fine the next day there is nothing at all to worry about. If it happens again see a doctor. Presumably there's a student health centre at your college where'll you'll have a degree of anonymity and staff who are well-used to dealing with stuff like this.

Get to a doctor right away This is not normal. You may have a cardiovascular problem such as pulmonary embolism. Do not delay seeking attention.

I'm a pharmacist (not a doctor). However, people routinely ask my advice about when/if they should see a doctor for something. So I'll give you the same answer I would give anyone else.

First, fainting can be caused by several things, namely heart arrhythmias, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, seizure, hypotensive shock, neurogenic shock, drug use (both prescription and otherwise), the list goes on and on.

Two things you describe concern me. One, you said you lost your hearing for a time. That's almost never normal or acceptable. Two, you threw up. While this can certainly be caused by neurogenic shock or a panic attack, it can also be caused by other, more worrisome things - things that can and should be treated. Also, a panic attack or neurogenic shock typically occurs (though not always) much more close in time to the traumatic event - something on the order of seconds or minutes.

While this could certainly turn out to be nothing or something benign, there's really only one way to find out. See a doctor, please! I firmly believe in "better safe than sorry." I've seen what can happen when people blow off a health concern only to regret it later. If you were standing in front of me in my pharmacy, I would emplore you to see your doctor and have him confirm that everthing is ok.

Let us know how it goes and that you're ok!
