Is this the vocalist of our generation?

OMG, my ears

To be fair, Christina does have an amazing voice. It probably is a once in a generation voice. It's very distinct. It's just that I don't think she's necessarily the best vocalist out there. She often over sings and sometimes when she ascends into her full voice it comes across as screaming, not belting.

And while we're giving credit let's not forget Genie in a Bottle is pretty huge. When compared to Single Ladies,

Genie in a Bottle
- 6 weeks at #1
- Year end - #7
- Decade end - #43

Single Ladies
- 4 weeks at #1
- Year End - #8
- Decade End - #99

Edit -> This is where cupidboy or digitalfudge can put the christina standing and clapping gif from The Voice.

^I'm not saying Christina has had more chart success than Beyonce, because she hasn't. I was just replying to the comment about Christina putting out anything as big as Single Ladies.

Also Jay-Z features in that song, and for a good part of her career Beyonce was either featured alongside other artists (Destiny's Chilid), or had other artists featured with her on her singles (Crazy in Love, Fighting Temptation, Baby Boy, etc.). Her first entry on the Hot 100 with a single off an album by her, without any featured artist is Me, Myself, and I

Me, Myself, and I
Peak - #4
Year End - #26
Decade End - n/a

Christina's first chart entry isn't Genie in a Bottle, but it's her first single released from an album by her. Reflection was actually her first single, recorded for the Disney film Mulan, which was later thrown onto her debut album as well. But it was off a move soundtrack and never properly promoted at radio and never given a video release.

Christina has some decent tracks in her track record, two of which are pretty iconic (Genie in a Bottle and Beautiful). Beautiful is arguably one of the best ballads of all time, and it was released to critical and commercial acclaim. It's also pretty much an anthem for the LGBT community.

Now it hasn't matched the chart success of many of Beyonce's songs, but let's be honest, Beyonce has yet to put out such an empowering ballad. Her biggest hits are R&B/mainstream radio, mostly mid to uptempo songs. But she's never been the type to put out iconic ballads or emotional songs.

Christina isn't called The Voice of her Generation because of her abilities as a vocalist or because of her chart success. She's attained that title because the few times she has put out emotional songs, they showcase her voice really well, and her voice makes those songs incredibly memorable and powerful.

It's essentially the same thing Mariah Carey does with songs like Hero. Her voice makes those songs immortal.

What about Irreplaceable?
Peak - #1
Weeks - 10
Year End - #1
Decade End - 25

Now if those numbers don't show that ballad being and impact, then I don't know what does. Also, no one is featured on that song. ;)

Halo was an impact as well, even though it failed to hit #1.

Lest we forget Listen.

My mom knows about Beyoncé and she speaks little English. Christina Aguilera has a whole album in Spanish and has Spanish in her and she don't know about her.

The impact.

your anecdotal evidence is very cute
My mom knows about Godney The Holy Spearit and not Beyawnce. Therefore by your logic, Godney > Beyawnce

The impact.
You should go listen to Femme Fatale in its entirety to repent for your sins.

See that's the thing. I actually like Britney and Christina. I just prefer Bey over them. Nothing wrong with that. They were powerful in their prime. Not anymore. Bey hasn't faded. ;)

Oh, and I own Femme Fatale and it shits, so my sins are forgiven. :D

Leave those girls alone! They both have their fanbase and both have amazing voices.

Admittedly, Beautiful was the song I grew up with everytime I feel low. That had to be the song that we all love.

Irreplaceable and Beautiful are two different types of songs that empower. The latter is for everyone! Irreplaceable is just for those who wanna get out of an abusive/annoying/unfaithful/toyboy relationships! So please do not put these two songs together.

Queen Bey is rising yes! But we all still love some Christina don't we? Remember The Voice Within?

I love them both!

from a latin american xtina stan

btw its cool that you like bey. I like her too. Her voice is very pretty but I've never heard any emotion in her voice which is why i prefer Legend X.

While I do think Christina has a POWERFUL voice, don't go mindlessly saying Bey has no emotion. I own pretty much all the Divas' material (Bey, Christina, Britney, etc.) so I can compare. Christina has emotion, so does Bey. Listen to Listen, listen to Resentment, listen to 1+1 (which I don't like) you can tell the emotion is there.

We have digressed enough. Lets not make this about other divas. This is Queen Kim's thread.

She about to hit #1 with this hit!

I guess she and Britney didn't need to finish high school with the records they were selling. And they're still selling, so, they won.

A Little Bit is my jam.

You need to get at I've Got My Eyes on You.
