i was just reading up on HIV, and ended up on Wikipedia.
one thing that startled me, tho, was this chart....

i thought that, (and this sounds morbid, but) i had more time...


well, maybe that's silly to say. (is it? i'm scared.)
i was told if i stayed healthy, i would live a long time!

Read the graph! That's for "treatment naive" patients --that means NO TREATMENT! With treatment there's potentially no limit to your lifespan (at least from HIV.)
 
Wikipedia is notorious for being incorrect. You would be better off getting facts from the back of a corn flakes packet.

but where does it say that on the chart?
 
It's below the actual graph, between the "wikipedia commons" graphic and the "gnu" graphic. And the graphic itself is accurate for non-treated HIV disease per typical cases. No one can predict what will happen to a specific individual which is why someone with the infection should be under the care of a physician.
 
I think wikipedia is a bad place for you to do research on HIV. Especially if you yourself have it. Its not always the most accurate. I couldn't find any source info for that chart.
So it could be averages of patients in a study, it could be one subject in a study or it could be total crap.

i believe it is showing a correlation between the number of viral copies and the number of CD4+T lymphocytes. which as time progresses the CD4+t count goes down and the number of viral copies increases. Its important to note that each person is different and you very well could have 10+ years, if you follow your doctors instructions carefully and stay healthy.

If the chart still has you worried, print it out and take in to your doctor and he can explain it in better detail and how it may or may not relate to you.

this is SANS tretment or disease management as it were
with HAART the latency period is extended indefinately bud
now breath and smile u have a full life ahead of u
 
The problem has already been solved I realize... that is without treatment. As stated, it is very important to stick to your medication for life and not miss doses. HIV is very good at becoming resistant if you forget.

Also, to the naysayers of Wikipedia, it is actually a very reliable source of information

I admit, it is getting considerably better. It used to be a HORRIBLE source for medical information with all kinds of errors. But as of late, I've found it more reliable. Still, if you have a disease, I wouldn't use wikepedia to learn about something that is affecting your life personally.
