I currently live with my paternal Grandmother; she's ninety and in surprisingly good health considering her weight. She makes me a little nuts, but she was my favorite person in childhood and that covers a lot of aggravation now.
My maternal grandmother died a couple of years ago, well into her nineties; I didn't really know her that well, she was kind of a bitch. But she taught me all I know about etiquette and the more baroque social graces, so she had some good in her.
I spent a lot of time with my grandparents when I was a child, and it was always somehow more special than time with my parents... they were simply more interesting. It's a shame that we often don't have many old people in our lives when we're young, they give us better perspective and a sense of history.
