Another tracker goes down . I'm really getting sick of this:

MPAA Takes Down IsoHunt’s BitTorrent Trackers in the US

Starting today, the Isohunt team will deny access to all US visitors on their TorrentBox and Podtropolis tracker. They are forced to take this action because of their involvement in a lawsuit initiated by the MPAA.

The IsoHunt crew released this statement today:

As of earlier today, we have disabled access from users in the US to our trackers. This goes for ALL trackers (torrentbox, podtropolis) we run. This is due to the US’s hostility towards P2P technologies, and we feel with our current lawsuit brought by the MPAA, we can no longer ensure your security and privacy in the US. So, if you’re outside the US, you may notice less peers. We encourage you to add other public, unhampered trackers to torrents you post, in addition to Torrentbox and Podtropolis’s trackers.

IsoHunt is not alone in their battle with the MPAA. Last month TorrentSpy, another site named in the MPAA lawsuit blocked access to US users on their site. However, the takedown of IsoHunt’s trackers will have an even bigger effect on the BitTorrent community worldwide, especially because TorrentBox runs one of the biggest public BitTorrent trackers. As mentioned by the Isohunt team, this means that users outside the US will see less peers connected to their torrents which may result in slower download speeds.

The MPAA announced the lawsuit against Torrentspy, Torrentbox and Isohunt in February 2006. Isohunt owner Gary later told TorrentFreak that they will not bow down to the MPAA. Isohunt hired a top-notch lawyer, specialized in Internet copyrights. It now seems that this wasn’t enough to keep the trackers in the air. For now, the websites are still available to US visitors.

The MPAA argues that the sole purpose of these BitTorrent trackers and sites is to share copyrighted content. But they are wrong according to Gary, who said, “We process copyright takedown requests daily, and have done so for hundreds of requests in the past, if not thousands. We work with all copyright owners, and even the RIAA email us routinely. The MPAA is the only organization unwilling to cooperate with us.”

Luckily, quite a lot of torrents are tracked by more that one tracker these days. And if that doesn’t work there’s always DHT. You can read more about how to protect yourself from failing BitTorrent trackers in this article. Long live the hydra!

To be continued. (Thanks Tom)

wow!

this is big! :eek::eek:

normally i'd say: setup a proxy. but if everyone in this country get's denied, no proxy, no matter how supped up, is going to make up for the lack of other seeders.

demonoid just moved there from the netherlands. this will get interesting.
the really bad thing is that they weren't asked to shut it down - they just removed the server or so. the demonoid admins don't know anything yet.

remember .. you have to sign up for demonoids. i hope you all did use throw away e-mail :)

not really known. atm there is no info from the isp. it is just "gone".

I'm really disappointed about demonoid. Since TorrentSpy's incident it's been my main source. I wonder if this is just a temporary setback for them, or a permanent one?

still wanna know if demonoid is gonna be back up :(.
That may be, if the below is accurate:

Demonoid Not Shut Down by the CRIA, Servers Being Rebuilt
posted by soulxtc in bittorrent // 56 minutes ago

Supposedly "major server failures" were to blame and not the CRIA, meaning that Demonoid should be back online very soon.

It's been a hectic last few nights for many of those whom have come to rely on Demonoid as their BitTorrent tracker site mainstay. Between the loss of TorrentSpy, and most recently ISOHunt, to US visitors, the thought that Demonoid had been effectively shut down sent an eerie chill throughout the BitTorrent community.

Now in all fairness, t wouldn't have been too great a leap to buy into the story published on a Dutch news site that the CRIA, the Canadian Recording Industry, had pressured Demonoid's ISP into ceasing to host the site. After all, BREIN, the Dutch anti-piracy group, did do it to them before in the Netherlands.

But, luckily it may just have proved to be a big much to do about nothing after recently receiving an e-mail from a person apparently "in the know."

I won't use his name in order to keep as many details away from prying eyes as possible(Sorry Pisexy), but here is what he told me:

No, Demonoid is NOT being shut down by the CRIA, or anyone else.
That is pure FOD.
It suffered major server failures, and is currently being rebuilt.

I'm still trying to get more details and a few comments from them as to what life's been like during the last few days of this Demonoid "crisis" so stay tuned for an update to the story to appear later.

My bittorrent incomplete files are coming back to life right now. The ones that showed in red are now green and running. Something happened somewhere. Yeaaaaaa.

For everyone who uses Demonoid, there has been a message posted on their site, verifying the article posted by trinket:

"The latest changes to the site are giving us some problems - We'll be back soon"

For some legit users of bittorrents, this is quite a huge hit... we need all the trackers and seeders possible, yet the government wants to step in over silly file sharing shit, instead of solving real problems, lol. Techies / Geeks / Nerds / Computer people will always find a way around whatever laws and limits they put in place.

I'm not sure if demonoid was hit by any of this, I know they're having site troubles, but I think things are still alive and well for U.S. visitors on their trackers.

Demonoid's Trackers taken down for Canada

They are just about back, but it seems they did the same thing for their site that TorrentSpy did for theirs, but since Demonoid is based in Canada...

FYI, the Demonoid site isn't available just yet, but at least there's something when you go to the domain:

Ok, this is just a sad and futile question, but is there any way around isohunt's torrentbox tracker ban?
