The bottom line is that sequester decimates an aspect of every constituency. If the people in office allow it to happen they wont be in office in two years. Obama is not running again and the next Senate battle is not so contentious as this one was. So in the end the very weak tea Party control coalition of republicans will crumble under the idea of losing their jobs. They will spin it to their constituents as back up against the wall... i couldn't allow (name of pet project constituents love) to fail could I? So the broken republicans will bend and raise taxes. One for four like Obama originally offered.

I wont join one of them, but I sure as hell will argue for one of them or the other as they change and as my life needs change. But I think in the end, the whole point of being independent is to in the end choose something that matters, and make a stand on one side or the other.

Independents are allowed to pick sides.... being a non affiliated voter just means you have more options and less establishment expectations. It doesn't mean your vote is more dispensable.

The Tea Party is crumbling in their ability to accomplish anything. Boehner would have made some compromises had it not been for that tea party block... A lot of outspoken tea party types are gonna lose in red states this time around because of ignorance on abortion. They will be weakened and Boehner will damn sure not desire to officiate the TWO most unproductive houses in history. He will tell them they gambled and lost and now it is time to go onward.

Yeah, I think a vote is something way too important to squander on "making a statement". A vote should matter, and a vote for a third party president simply doesn't. And it won't matter EVER, regardless of how many times it's cast, unless third parties rise on lower levels first. This is no way to break the two party system, and it doesn't tell anybody anything other than that you just didn't vote.

I just want there to be development in the GOP on social issues so sane people have two choices again.

And it won't matter EVER, regardless of how many times it's cast, unless third parties rise on lower levels first. I could honestly see myself aligned once again with conservative ideology IF they thought I was a human being. If they thought my family were human beings that deserve affordable access to health care. Of course they will also have to develop a plan to re-build our infrastructure, acknowledge global climate change and prepare for it, develop responsible fiscal policy.....

Man those GOPers got a long way to go... but hey Notre Dame is a valid football team again so i know anything is possible....

I can buy that. If the group targeting the top ten Tea Party nuts succeeds as they think, seven of those are going down to defeat. Given the 'balance' in the House, that might be enough.

I do. I doubt it would ever actually die in the Senate, but in the House I see having eleven different parties as a benefit -- if nothing else, people could actually be represented for once.

If the GOP actually had libertarian values, I could vote that way -- in fact I voted for a couple of Republicans in local and state races who do have those values.
