Disney is releasing a 3D version of A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey as Ebenezer Scrooge.

A Christmas Carol isn't really a story which needs to be told in 3D. I fear the 3D effects will become the movie and the story and moral will disappear in their wake.

Let's see, Disney, Jim Carrey, 3D... I'm giving this one a miss.

I was at Comic-Con and saw the panel for the film with exclusive footage (in 3-D) and it was all about the oooo aaaaa factor. The interview with the director talked only about the effects.

That's what I was afraid of. They'd have had to rewrite the entire story to fit in all the 3D crap. The whole essence of the story will be lost.

I saw the trailer for this when I saw Toy Story 1 & 2 in 3D.

I have to agree with everyone here, the story will be lost in the 3D madness.

And seeing a very old version of Jim Carrey being thrown around every which way, in 3D no less, does not look or sound appealing at all. [-X

I'll be skipping this one... also Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland...

I love all the "Christmas Carol" movies, and I watch every one of them every Christmas, beginning with my three favorite, the Alistair Sim version, then the Reginald Owen version, and then George C. Scott's version. There's also Patrick Stewart's version which I saw for the first time last Christmas as well as Albert Finney, Seymour Hicks and Bill Murray's "Scrooge" movies. I'll have to admit that I've never seen the Muppet version.

I also have Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol which I can still remember watching on TV when I was a boy.

So, seeing how much as I love the Christmas Carol story, I'll probably watch this one, too. I'm not a Jim Carrey fan, but I'm curious enough to give this movie a try.

Alastair Sim's rendition of Scrooge always reminds me that hope fulfils redemption.

A wonderful story combined with a quality of acting that is worthy of the story's lesson for all of us.

My favourite scene from Scrooge. The scene is well worth watching in its entirety:

I invite a mod to fix the link. Thank you.
