Three glorious days camping, more than half the time in bare skin, swimming and floating and throwing floating objects for the dogs, finished off with a bonfire that started as a six-foot high stack of river driftwood... a great way to celebrate the Fourth!


Then we packed up. And back at my truck, someone had torn up the sign notifying others of naturists ahead, dumped it with other trash onto my truck's hood, and wrote "fagot" in the dust on my windows.



What a change for the better! Even five years ago, it would likely have been broken headlights, human excrement smeared on the windshield, and "fagot" scratched into the paint, if not a slashed tire or two as well.

Even here, it gets better.

It's a shame a joyful time had to be marred by ugliness, even mitigated ugliness.

And by rank cowards at that. There is nothing so small as a man who is a secret vandal, and, as you already know, this was done by men or boys who were together, to make one another feel like men instead of the little bitches they were.

Someone had previously torn off the sign and thrown it in the road. I put it back.

If this hadn't happened the last day, I was prepared: I took six copies of the thing.

What really irks me is how rude they were being to others who might have come to the swimming hole where we were camped and with the sign missing only discovered something they might have found objectionable after a five minute walk, leaving them with a five minute walk back. How can people be so ignorantly careless about other people? It made me wonder if they WANTED other people to keep going and end up shocked.

Bro, if you can manage to swing to the coast for a day on a trip this way this summer, we'll go have a bonfire!

(Unless it gets dry and they close the forest to fires.)

Rednecks, like mosquitoes, are more likely to be found in certain environments. But having gotten there first, I was determined to enjoy the place my way!

Actually, some people came down and enjoyed the place anyway -- didn't talk to us, but didn't object. And on a couple of prior campouts at the same place, it's been a woman who would walk right up to me and ask if I could compromise a little so they could bring their kids to their favorite spot. So yeah, I think little boys in men's bodies were in action here.

For most of the summer, I'm switching to the next river north in the county. It's a little cooler, but gets a lot more people coming over from liberal-land on the other side of the Coast Range, which keeps the redneck influence down.

I wondered when this would show up.

No, I'm doing exactly the opposite: I don't feel like a victim, I feel sorry for the poor sod who has so little in his life that he stooped to trying to be mean to someone else.

In the other case, the poster was working at being a victim. And I didn't say "Suck it up", I said stop treating such people as though they're important to him!

My post is saying things are getting better: no attack, no bashing, just empty actions deserving of my pity, not whining or crying or even clinging to feeling upset, when not so long ago it would have been actions actually damaging to me. This bothered me so much I wiped the writing off my truck and just kept loading my stuff.


So if me treating mere words and minor impersonal harassment as not worthy of bother in my life when that is what I previously told others to do is "karma", then great! Give me more "karma" that demonstrates that things are getting better.
