It never rains in California...

It was originally forecasted to only be at tropical storm strength when reaching US shores, but the US news industry has to have a story of the week, and they've beaten the Hawaiian sea horse to death this week, so had to find another.

I do hope California finds ways to capture rainwater more over time with these changing rain patterns, to be a boon to the falling water table and the dearth reading Lake Meade and Lake Powell. The curse of climate change may yet be harnessed in some ways to mitigate the totality of it, somewhat.

All you West Coasters stay safe. Mud is no joke.
 
Moderate rain here on the westside of Los Angeles. Not of much significance.

The real "disaster" news is that about a half an hour ago there was a 5.1 earthquake in Ojai--about fifty miles away--and I was notified by a cellphone alert 20 seconds or so before I felt it. It was a substantial jolt followed by about five seconds of swaying.
 
It has been raining all day - some flash flooding - but not in my area. The good news is at least here the winds have not come about as predicted.

We had a hurricane hit down west of Mobile a couple of years ago, and power inland, going up the Tennessee Valley. The news made a big deal about it coming and they wouldn't let people come in to work at my office. I didn't get the phone alert (because the security folks are idiots), and I went in as usual. It was a Monday.

Got cross examined by the head of security about why I was there. Had to prove to him they had me in their computer in the wrong state.

Long story short, we only got mild rain that day, and no wind at all. And the entire town had buckled down like that. Alens are gonna fake us out one day and just take the place, I swear.
