It's Britney Bitch! (New Single!)

LAME ASS SONG OF THE YEAR. The "it's Brittney bitch" line that is so pathetic. She's trying to pull a diva attitude when her real personality is that of a bloated hillybilly with an 8th grade education & two neglected kids.
Divas are born (hello, Madonna) not manufactured. She should be singing "gimme more rehab".;)

"Divas" are an artifical construct. Talent has less to do with the role than attitude, and I don't even think Britney has any interest in the role.

Back on page one, I said, "This sort of thing fascinates me. Not the same way it fascinates most other people, but I still find it fascinating. Let's just say, for me, Ms Spears is easily the least important factor in the equation." I stand by that. Most people are watching the surface. Her detractors jeer when she's in the tabloids yet again (how odd), while her fans cheer and feel vindicated when "Britney" succeeds. To me, this IS an amazing success. But not for Britney. For the people behind the scenes.

What did they have to work with? A woman who in the last few years was better known for her public (mis)behavior than her music. A woman who apparently only managed to eke out one decent tune this year. (Were there more, they wouldn't be pushing the album back - they'd use the buzz now to drive sales.) And on that one song, it's not as if Britney "made it her own" - that could be anybody there. A woman who apparently is unable to promote her career with anything approaching reliability, as witnessed by the "comeback lipsynch fest" and her VMA performance. That's not a lot to work with. But they found a song capable of working its way into people's brains, got a decent enough performance out of her for the single, managed to parlay a shoulda-been-career-ending performance on MTV into "buzz", gotten the song onto Top 40 radio (#31 and climbing), and now, #1 on iTunes.

And it's a triumph for Britney?

Rarely do the statues get erected for the right people. :)

The albums are great. Britney is gonna smoke Alicia Keys on the 13th of November.

I got a sneak preview and i love,

Radar
Heaven on Earth
Piece of Me
Cold As Fire
Break The Ice

I think Heaven on Earth should be the second single or the official first single. That would make a cool video too.

Dont forget people tomorrow is worldwide download day, for
Gimme More :)

"Britney is gonna smoke Alicia Keys on the 13th of November."

Yes! That is precisely what I find so fascinating.

True, Lex, divas are an artificial construct. But the question is "do you have the aura and talent to pull it off"? Obviously, Britney's attempt to come on aggressive only magnified her weakness.

You are correct in saying Spears is the least important factor in the equation. I find it strange that anyone would equate "success" with a song that suffers from weak lyrics, vocals and production. Any back-up singer and hack producer could have created the exact same song. A true professional would have showed up prepared.

I don't consider it a "success" either when the enablers surrounding her are only in it for some end-of-career cash. All the yes-men too cowardly to say "get your shit together" cuz they know a mad Britney fires when she doesn't hear what she wants to believe.

And if "statues rarely get erected for the right people" then she better get in line behind Tori, Madonna, Annie, Christina and several dozen more worthy. :D

No, halo, I think you're missing my point. Several of them, in fact.

Think of Cher's "Believe". That was also a song by an artist on the decline which shot to #1. The difference? It's an extremely well-written song, and the production and performance are top-notch. Yes, there's the novelty Cher-bot aspect to it, but that's one aspect of many.

Then there's Britney. I also think the song is marginal at best. Not just on paper, but Britney's performance of same. But it's number one. They took a marginal performance of a marginal song by an artist on the decline, and got it to go number one. That's the amazing thing right there. Remember, Britney and her ilk don't make art. They make product. Their job is to crank out things that people will consume. And what they cranked out this time was marginal, at best - but they got it to sell a ton.

Some one was astute enough to put the "it's Britney bitch" at the beginning. Whoever had that idea better have gotten a bonus. (I'm sure her fans think it was her idea.) Something for fans to latch onto, a rallying cry, and even something for haters to scoff at. But it was something to hang the song on. The rest is a standard pop-dance-strut with a 3-2-3 chorus that's become fairly popular with in these pop-dance-struts. No biggie.

People seem to think this happens all the time. That substandard crap gets sent to the top of the charts, and that the record labels can manipulate the public into buying whatever it wants. Not even close. If it could, why bother signing "talent"? They could have Fred in accounting sing the songs.

Easiest proof of this? Kevin Federline. This shoulda been a slam dunk. He had name recognition before he ever walked into a recording studio. He was linked with a then-on-top-of-her-game pop starlet, and got her to guest on the album.

So what went wrong? "Lack of talent", say most. No. Not that I think K-Fed IS talented. But talent doesn't matter. I recorded myself singing a pop hit some years ago, and it sounds pretty good...even though my voice is marginal at best. Why? My friend's a producer. He manipulated my voice so it sounded really good. And this was back in 1998, in a home studio! These guys have the best in the business - both people and equipment - at their disposal. They can make anybody sound good.

So what happened to K-Fed? Two things. First, he chose rap. Big mistake. Rap is a genre where studio trickery can only mask your deficiencies so far. Plus, it's a genre where credibility is half the game, and getting your gig by being married to Britney Spears puts you in a major hole from the get-go. Secondly, whatever his faults, I don't think Federline is the puppet that Britney is. He co-wrote most of those crappy raps and boring beats. It may be shit (in fact, it is), but it's HIS shit. Had he done the puppet routine - told the record label "Pick pop songs for me, I'll sing them, and do whatever you want to promote them" - he'd probably be at least platinum by now. He'd probably still be married to Britney. :)

Britney, on the other hand, may be the ultimate puppet. I say that based on the few clips of that "reality" TV show she was on. It appears they told her, "Just be yourself"...and she couldn't.

When I say "statues rarely get erected for the right people", I don't mean that Tori et al should get statues first. I meant for this battle in particular. Britney showed up, sang the song disinterestedly a few times, and put on a half-baked show for it. The people behind the scenes went into overdrive, pushing this, nudging that, and the song is now #1. And right there, on iTunes, the song is credited to "Britney Spears". The behind-the-scenes people, though? Just another day at the office.

Side note. I remember Britney fans gave me (and others) grief for talking about her when she was down. I was told I should have sympathy for when somebody falls, as the pressures of fame are great. Strange that these same folks are now pushing her further up the mountain.

Lex

Britney sucks! BAD!! Why she still has fans is beyond me. I mean yeah, she's a sweetheart, but she's past her prime. She needs to take another break, and come back "anew".

Blah. I will change the radio station and turn the channel every time I hear her voice or see her ugly videos. She hasn't released a decent song since 2001.

Go away, Britney. Go back to rehab, and get a therapist, honey.

Cause it's NOT working right now!!

>_>

I highly doubt her "comeback album" will do incredibly well or as well as people may think it'll be. I suspect it to be her lowest debut sales or whatev, but in the "low for Britney but OK for a new artist" kind of way you know?

In short, I don't think it'll be the bomb or give her back the Pop Diva status & I don't think it will completely dismiss her "bloated hill-billy with an 8th grade education & two neglected kids" persona either.

Of course I could be wrong, but no one was expecting Paris Hilton to have a hit single, but her album was quickly forgotten.

Britney may have a catchy 1st single, but I don't expect much success overall; especially for her comeback.

Anyone else feel the same? Alicia Keys new song I love by the way...lol

Comparing Cher's "Believe" to Britney new stuff is a lop-sided comparison. "Believe" was all-around excellent, that's why it was an international hit. Even with limited video airplay because she is not concidered MTV generation. The reason Britney's song could succeed is out of freak curiosity. She will get video airplay for the same reason everyone looks at a car wreck along side the freeway.

The song is boring. It has nothing new to say or exciting to hear. The success or failure doesn't have that much to do with these people behind the scenes. Britney's "product" is like slop in a trough before hungry pigs- they will gobble up anything. On the other hand, "Believe" took a chance on a whole new audience and succeeded.

As for substandard crap going to #1, it happens all the time. Record labels, for the most part, don't sign talent. And Spears is the perfect example. She was created by corporate America (Disney, Jive Records, MTV, etc...). Her "team" chose to whore her out at a young age in exchange for fame and money.

Now Britney is at the inevitable crisis point. No one can buy the good girl act anymore. Kinda hard after the drugs, nudity, divorces, etc... So where does she go from here? Keep up the "hey watch me paparrazzi, i'm crazy" show? Host a game show? Sell Avon door-to-door? Who knows... she has no real talent to carry her thru her adult years.

It's a sad case of having too much and still saying "gimme more". :(

Of course it's a lopsided comparison - that's why I made it. Cher apparently chose not to follow-up on the goodwill that "Believe" earned her, though. Her next album was Cherbot from start to finish. But then again, she appeared to be preparing for a victory lap, in which case "Believe" was an appropriate and ideal sendoff.

But back to the Britster. "Freak curiousity" only gets you so far. It gets people to listen once, but not continuously. It doesn't make people download the song. Radio stations DO play novelty songs, but only for a week - this song's been climbing the charts for several.

And Britney's fans will NOT slop up "just anything". If they did, as I said, K-Fed would've sold a lot more. You call the song "boring" - I call it "made to order". It's a paint-by-numbers, calculated, crafted number designed to appeal to her fanbase. I love a good pop song as much as the next person, but this song is a bit too calculated for me to do anything but vaguely appreciate its component parts.

You mention that Britney was "designed", and I don't doubt that. (They may in fact be starting earlier with people like Zac Efron and Hannah MontanaCyrus.) But the true genius is that they've managed to make lifelong fans from a teenybopper. Generally, once puberty hits in, they go the way of Leif Garrett - off to obscurity. Sure, a few teen idols surprised people by having quite a bit of talent behind the cute smile (Michael Jackson and, most notably, Stevie Wonder), but Britney is the first one in recent memory who seems to keep being pushed along in the A-List despite not displaying much in the way of talent.

Here's the weird thing. I'm thinking back to who I was a fan of back when I was young. About the most embarrassing one I can think of is Rick Springfield. I still think Rick has more talent in his little finger than Britney has in her whole body - Rick wrote all but one of his hits, arranged them, played guitar, and had a great voice to boot - but he was packaged similarly. Cute pop performer with a flair for a good video.

But here's the deal. I was a fan of Rick Springfield's MUSIC. I don't think I was a Rick Springfield fan, per se. I remember not buying one of his singles ("What Kind of Fool Am I") because...well, I didn't think it was any good. When I saw the video for "Human Touch", I thought it was silly (even at age 13). When he made a feature film (Hard to Hold), I didn't go see it - it looked dreadful. (From what I saw, it was.) In all of these cases, I didn't feel the need to go buy the single or album, or go see the movie, to "support Rick". I felt no obligation to him. When his movie bombed, I may have felt a bit sorry for him, but if he wanted it to do well, he should've made a better movie, damnit. It's not up to me to buoy up his career by purchasing substandard merchandise.

Britney fans are indicative of the other breed of fan. They don't care much about the quality of the product as long as the label name is there. They're precisely like those guys who shop at A&F exclusively, because, you know, it's A&F. They feel the products are superior, and that's that. Similarly, Britney's music is always fantastic because it's Britney, bitch.

These fans aren't anything new. I knew a Corey Hart fan from back in the day who felt the same way. But there seems to be a lot more of them now. So what's changed? More media access? Or have people just decided they don't mind the manipulation?

I ponder such things while waiting in line at the bank. :)

>>>Although i heard her label pulled it and that the album will be delayed till 2008.

According to Billboard, not.

"Spears' as-yet-untitled new album is still on target for a Nov. 13 release via Jive."

And they'd be fools to push the thing back at this point.
