  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

It's not just about marriage...

** Sighs **](*,)

Look, the Gay Rights Movement started in the 1990s.

Where the heck have you been...Oh I know not even born yet. The Gay rights movement has been growing since the 60's. I participated in Actions in Canada in the 80's And look we have what you are looking for.

Gay marriage

Protection of status

Gay men and women in uniform, in Combat right now with Americans.

Those things happened because we insisted the Charter applied to us and we fought until the High Court ageed. Those challenges that laid the ground work where begun in the 80's. By the end of the 80's we had most of the protections you are fighting for and 8 years ago the right to marriage was added. I married mine.

Now you ask me you have not done enough? Well you have you all don't need to want the same thing you just all have to agree that you should have the right to define you life without any distinction between yourselves and the straight population around you.

Don't stop make them see and use your wallets to do it. It is the only thing they will hear is the jingling of the coins going elsewhere.

Someone help me understand .Exactly what "struggles" do we as gay people suffer through each day in the U.S?

I think it's fantastic if you aren't struggling or facing any obstacles. Maybe you have no interest in getting married, adopting children, knowing you can be out AND safe, joining the military, or doing many of the other things we're currently fighting for. But here's the thing, many of your brothers and sisters are interested in those rights. Many of your brothers and sisters are struggling EVERYDAY and are facing obstacles EVERYDAY. They're outnumbered and out financed. Don't you want to stand by their sides?

No you wont. You will just belittle people trying to make a difference in issues that you don't personally think are important.

Obviously I'm no shrink, but I think that's his defense mechanism. There are lots of people just like him who act like it's okay to face routine discrimination and that the complainers (the activists) are just whinny know it alls who can't handle real life. Several women claim that they won't vote for a female Presidential candidate. Some African Americans encourage their children to "act whiter." I think this is their way of handling the discriminatory forces surrounding them. Maybe they can't deal w/ the fact that their government, their employers, and their neighbors treat them as "less than," so they act like it doesn't matter. And, if it doesn't matter then it can't hurt them.

It is also not to be considered an end of my will to fight, JUB just doesn't seem to be the place to do any of it.

That's all I want to hear. It looked like that to me but I'm glad it's not. If you don't think JUB is the right place, by all means take the fight somewhere else where it is worth fighting. :) (*8*)

:bartshock: WoW! I'd hate to see how some of you Mob Members handle real life..

If my sole opinion causes you to launch into the Bitch Fits I'm witnessing here, then you guys need help.

Seriously..

I just have to wonder do you have nothing better to do with your life then to bait people on a gay message board.

It is fine that you do not want to fight the fight, no one is forcing you to. However the is a serious matter to a lot of people around here and in the gay community as well. All that you seem to be doing is spouting off ignorant comments to get people going, do you really have nothing better to do with your time?????

My opinion on the matter, well I am Canadian and we all ready have all our rights here in Canada. As for my American counterparts I think that until the American population gets religion out of politics you have a long uphill battle on your hands.

IMO, if you're not prepared to stand up for the rights you should technically be afforded as a matter of your existence (just like every other human being), then you should also be prepared to waive those rights when other people wind up winning them for you. It's called consistency.

Elwood ~"Baiting People"? Really? Did you READ this thread, or are U just following the Gay Mob with your Thought Police bullshit? I was Attacked repeatedly before I posted my very first comment!

Oh I read the entire thread but I am wondering if you did? Because you ask this

Someone help me understand .Exactly what "struggles" do we as gay people suffer through each day in the U.S?

Try going to Iran where six gays were shot by their government for simply being gay!

When it is all spelled out right in the original post

First, let me start with the title of this thread. I have read too many people making comments about how marriage isn't really that important so people just need to sit down and shut up. Do you want to know something? It's not all about marriage. It's about:

The right to serve in the military without concern of being kicked out just because of the sex of the person you love.

It's about the right to not lose your apartment or home because of the sex of the person you love.

It's about the right to not lose your job because of the sex of the person you love.

It's about the right, if the person you love is from another country, to bring them to this country so you can live your lives together without worry that they may get deported.

It's about receiving the same benefits that everyone else gets when we pay the same taxes.

It's about the right to be with your partner when they are in the hospital.

It's about the right to adopt children that otherwise would have no real home.

It's about the rights promised to us long ago. We are ALL created equal. It's about time we were treated as such.

To those who say that the founding fathers only said we have the right to pursue happiness, I ask how I can pursue it if it's against the law?

This, by the way, isn't the entire list.

Wow and you were attacked even before posting in the thread, you must have a special JUB because I do not see any attacks until after your first post.

 Ok I'm bored now...

I tell ya what; Why don't you angry, bitter, elitist, queens fly to D.C and stage a impeach Obama rally! Will that work out the demons in your systems?

I'm done! buh bye!

I do not have to fly anywhere I am Canadian like I mentioned in my original post, so I have my rights, but I can still feel empathetic towards American gay people.

And talk about angry and bitter have you taken a look in the mirror lately????? Because you are the only one looking bitter and angry and stooping to name calling, very mature I may add

I'm done! buh bye!

I don't believe that for a second. If it did not bother you that we are fighting for equality, you would not have posted in the first place. You have your own agenda here on why you keep pushing this.... which you have every right to. You have a strange way of supporting your cause, calling people name after name.

What is your agenda? My guess is that your trying to protect Obama from any sort of criticism.
