It's really bizarre that on weekdays, we have school shootings. On Sundays, we have church shootings.

Those "god, guns and gays" obsessed Christian Nationalists are the ones that the obsession with firearms is backfiring on. Who would have thought that churches would have to have security plans and lock doors when their services start to avoid possible mass shooting events.

They're sowing a government that wars on its people, with the result that people war on people.
Want to reduce violence? Then a six-point plan:

• end the "War on Drugs"
• establish a robust community-based national mental health system
• provide housing to all, even if it's just mini-houses for those on the bottom
• fund a Canada-like universal health care system
• restore all roads and highways with a "US" in the name to A+ quality
• increase teacher pay and other measures to improve education

I'd add "outlaw the GOP" but there's the Constitution to consider.

Those are all things that have been shown to reduce violence of all kinds, and none of them would tread on the Second Amendment (indeed I would argue that half of them could be considered to *improve* the unorganized militia). They would also boost the economy by underpinning the foundation of free markets.

For over 50 years, gay people have been participating in Gay Pride Parades and celebrations. These celebrations have gone on in spite of 9/11, in spite of fears of Islamic extremism, in spite of protests from Christian extremists and in spite of threats from right-wing hate groups.

This week, Knoxville, Tennessee, home of the University of Tennessee canceled its Pride celebrations. Why? Because they couldn't get insurance.

Why couldn't they get insurance? Because there have been so many mass shootings at public events that insurers are beginning to refuse to underwrite them. In the case of Knox Pride, they had been trying for months to get their insurer to write a policy for their October Pride events.

It may be a sign of things to come. America's obsession with weapons of mass killing might be the thing that ends celebrations that have survived other threats for over 50 years.

Knox Pride's annual celebration and parade will not take place in 2025.

The Knox Pride events are cancelled, according to John Camp, executive director of the Knox Pride Community & Resource Center. Camp made the announcement in a social media video Oct. 1, just days ahead of the scheduled annual festival.

The event was supposed to take place on Oct. 3 and Oct. 4, according to Knox Pride.

Except that their liability insurance is going to either go up in price or be rejected, too.

It's irony: god, guns and gays may mean that churches like Joel Osteen's megachurch (already the target of a mass shooting event) are likely going to have increased difficulty getting liability insurance.

The insurance protects the church from going the route of Alex Jones and InfoWars. Wouldn't want to lose that 7 figure salary (some sources say 8 figures) and palatial parsonage that Osteen lives in to litigation now, would we?
