For me, it is. That's why I often don't know when I'm sick or it's allergies.

Some people learn to go by the colour and consistency of the discharge [read: snot].

As for an allergy causing coughing, a runny nose doesn't always 'run' forward.

Allergies can definitely cause coughing, if you suffer a lot of post nasal drip that can develop into those annoying mucous balls that cause you to cough them up.

Don't take Claritin D; I have a friend with allergies, and he said it worked very well for that, but it had some nasty side effects because Claritin D has speed in it; he said it made him a jittery, spaced-out insomniac.

Living here I am surrounded by pine trees and in spring everything is yellow due to the quantity of pollen they release. On a windy day you can see clouds of pollen billowing around. After a couple of years I developed an allergy; red eyes and running nose.

Then just a couple of years ago it stopped, no more allergy.

In the days of suffering I took an aspirin once a day and that helped.
