It's time for laikaNYC and justapixel to fulfill iiiset's wish

do you ever get to alimos athens?

I have a friend that is missing in action and I am having a hard time getting in touch with him.

From my home in Piraeus it's a twenty minutes bus ride (I gave up driving a car ten years ago to reduce my stress levels) to Alimos, a very pleasant seaside neighbourhood of Athens, with clean sea water, beautiful promenade, yacht marina, clean beaches and some hip bars, and night clubs.

If you have a telephone number I can give him a call, and report back to you. Is he Greek, or American? Our temperatures reached 37 degrees celsius today, so I am not inclined to explore the streets of Alimos in search of his last address.

This is a you tube link to a short clip that views Alimos promenade, and sea front from the inside of a passing tram.:

Again your word choice is unsettling.

Define your life however you want, I certainly have, but I detect a whiff of self-loathing, embarrassment, shame in the way your words imply there's something wrong with being gay, "allowing" it to define one's life and the notion that "gayness" is a less interesting topic of discussion.

, so then one has to wonder why it's not interesting to you among straight married people.

One can define oneself and one's life in terms broader than simply being gay and still engage with straight friends in interesting topics of discussion that touch on gayness.

Oh, puhleeze.

First you use that tired old self-loathing nonsense, to which one can only say Bovine Excreta. Parse my sentence any way you like, if it makes you feel better, but it doesn't change the basic facts.

The standard response of so many gays seems to be that if you don't toe the line and spout the same nonsense they do, you are suffering from internalized homophobia.

Married couples do not, as a rule, sit around talking about sex, so why should they do so when a gay couple is in their midst?

I don't allow the fact that I have ten fingers or ten toes to define my existence, nor do I spend a great deal of time discussing that fact, so why should sexual identity be any different?

Henry the other thread is just a party. it doesn;t mean you have to post about your sexual life. It suggests that we all can relate in some way as gay men and if we enjoy each others company then we will be more civil as a side effect over here.

Just read the thread. You can say what color eyes your man has, or tell us about a movie that you like that has a gay scene in it that you related to.

its just a fun thing to do

not an intimate delving into ones bedroom affairs.

come on, bud. Its fun.

Although sex does come up in conversations I have with both gay and straight friends, and I see nothing wrong with that, I was referring to nonsexual topics of discussion wherein gays are introduced as a relevant element.

Gays are a part of our world today, and I believe interestingly relevant in discussions on many topics. And in addition to that, some topics specifically relating to gays are interesting. I wouldn't, for instance, be friends with people who'd dismiss conversation about same sex marriage and its many ramifications as not interesting enough to discuss.

I was beginning to believe that Laika really was a young, idealistic, gay Republican, like I was myself in the dawn of the Reagan Revolution.

But because of his conspicuous absence in this thread, I'm beginning to think that the assessment of him as a "troll" was accurate all along.

To be honest, I'm rather disappointed.

Perfect.

This person is altering his opinion of a JUBer as a result of the characterizations made of him in this thread and, without knowing the reason, because laikaNYC hasn't posted here.

Speaks volumes.

That other thread is not a party, its just a bunch of nasty little liberal children engaging in a gang bang.

If that's your idea of fun, you have my deepest sympathy.

and this is fun and nice?

really?

is this the best you can do?

I am not interested in your sympathy.

keep it.

@HenryReardon: welcome back! I'd wondered what had happened to you. Had you been ill, or did private matters take you away from the forum?

While we most vigorously disagree on the topic of politics, I missed the intelligent discourse that you provided in the Political Forum.

Now, can we get back to the sport of beating each other bloody on Politics? You're a worthy opponent. :)

I frankly got so disgusted with much of the nastiness displayed here that I took a sort of self-imposed sabbatical. That, and the fact that I've been busy writing a novel and am halfway through another. The first one hasn't been published yet, but one gay publishing house is looking at it as we speak.

I have taken a peek at the forums from time to time, but it is, generally speaking, just the same crap over and over again.

Of course there's nothing wrong with talking about sex in mixed company, but the presence of a gay couple in an otherwise straight group need not be the catalyst for such a discussion.

Isn't the goal of a totally integrated society supposed to be that we reach a time when people take no notice of differences?

that kind of nonsense?

you think you get too old to have fun as a gay man. I am so glad I am not you.

Well, if your idea of 'fun' is ganging up on people with whom you do not agree, and picking on them, knock yourself out. Sadly, for you, decent people would not consider that to be 'fun.'

Whitewater rafting is fun.
Amusement parks are fun.
Circque du Soleil is fun.

That 'other' thread is not 'fun' for any sane person.

saying their names and asking them to come have fun is not ganging up on them.

anyway... I am seeing where this is going and so we will have to just agree that we disagree.

thanks for sharing your opinions with me.

Welcome back Henry! Now i can check out the entertainment forum to discuss classical music and opera again! I did post there today about the Housewives of New Jersey, but only because I had local knowledge of the cast members' family dirt.

Oh, and none of these threads is fun for any sane person!

In that classical music thread did you ever feel as though we were two small voices crying in the wilderness?

It's kind of hard to compete with threads titled "what song are you listening to right now?" and almost every forum has something similar.

God I hope not.

I can think of nothing more dull and uninspiring than a population of homogeneous people, or people who are unique but don't even notice it.

BTW, ..| on your novel.

perhaps Martha has a forum with standards that you may find more up to your station than the lowbrows around these parts ;)

A lot of people today confuse immaturity with fun; they are not the same.

Immature people have fun one way, mature people have fun another.

When we grow into adulthood we're supposed to mature. There are lots of reasons for that, not least is it's necessary for a healthily structured society.

But it's very clear that Americans are way off track with that now. We've become a high schoolish culture and the consequences of that are unfolding as we speak.
