Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I've become a fan of wifebeaters

I used to know them as undershirts and I believe that they were to the generation before me. They look hot on good looking men, but not on everyone. I wouldn't look good in one, so I don't wear them.

proper name for them in this area is tank top---they look good if you have nice arms and decent chest---but I don't wear them around on the street--but will on a beach or as an undershirt --tank top 2.jpg

...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................^ That is not a wifebeater, that's either a pinafore or a camisole.

^ I thought that was a vest

use tank top around here---but "wife-beater" is tight tank top--I'm not PC but wife beater has all kinds of politically incorrect connotations.;)

Hence, I worded the OP for double meaning. You guys are no fun.

It's a slur on "deplorables" and rednecks isn't it? Neither of which are a PC-protected class, in fact it's the height of PCism to denegrate them.

Wasn"t a tight white athletic shirt and jeans a gay uniform in the 70s?

These are the hottest things ever....... :-<

The History of Underclothes by C. Willett and Phillis Cunnington
"This vacillating habit of the two layers of clothing has affected the names of garments: we see how the ‘pantaloons’ of the early nineteenth century became presently man’s ‘pants’—synonymous with ‘drawers’ in this country but with ‘trousers’ in the U.S.A.
Woman has not hesitated to borrow man’s nomenclature for her own underwear; ‘chemise’ was the Norman word for his shirt, and the modern ‘panties’ is, of course, but a playful variant of his pantaloons.
It is strange that by a series of complicated changes the name of an early Christian martyr—Saint Pantaleone—should have arrived at this latter end and that the girl of to-day should find a seat on the relics of a saint.
For centuries woman has claimed for her own the name of ‘petticoat’ ; this ‘little coat’ was man’s property in the Middle Ages which, together with his chemise and drawers, has been taken from him."
