This new digital television signal which came into effect on June 12 sucks the big one! Never has my television viewing been interrupted so much!

I was watching a programme on Discovery about Somalian pirates and the damned thing froze with 5 minutes left.

This is the third programme today I've missed the endings to because the cable signal froze because of a little thunderstorm.

And now I'm probably going to miss the Mythbusters as well.

Digital sucks!! :grrr:

I have limited bandwidth. I couldn't afford to watch it online.

I watch all my tv online.

I was thinking of cancelling my cable and just hooking the big screen to my desktop. I'd miss some channels I have now, but I'd get used to it...and save a ton of money.

I just need to figure out which cables I need to hook these things together

You hook the string to the bottom of the first paper cup - tie a knot at the end so it doesn't cum loose - and then poke a hole in the bottom of the "other" cup and thread the opposing end of the same string tru that hold and tie it off so it's good-n-tight. Then put one end over your mouth and practice reaching the string at the bottom with your tongue - all the while going - lalalallalaallalaalalalalalalalala !! that shoulld do it.

Oh a wise guy, 'ey?

You just want to see me do that with my tongue! :p

It IS somewhat disappointing and fraught with peril...

I shudder to think what I pay Comcast every month for HDTV and broadband Internet...

Even with everything as 'broad' as can be, the major channels still freeze and pixelate and the audio drops out whenever it feels like it...

I don't pretend to understand how all of it works, but I do know that as much as cable TV puts down satellite TV, they themselves are satellite based...

It seems to be based on two things: Bad weather and service demand. If there's a show on that draws a big audience, like a football game or a popular show, the odds are increased that everything will just 'freeze up' until you turn off the TV and start again.

NO one told us about this !

Yeah, with cable you're at the mercy of your local company, who may be incompetent. With a dish at least you can adjust it yourself to make sure it's set up properly. Or find somebody who knows what they're doing to do it for you...

It makes me mad when I think of all those ads they played on tv for months:
"Are you ready for High Definition television?" Remember those...?

The big question is, were the tv stations ready?

That affected us in western canada as well on cable. everything froze repeatedly on multiple channels today.

Must have been the start of the alien invasion like in Independence Day.

Or maybe god is interfering with the signals, could be the apocalypse bankside. Great to see you're on a heightened sense of alert ;)

OH NOES! It's Socialism! Or Not!

(Maybe it is the 'Three Amigos' summit in Mexico? :D)

Great sense of humor! I like it. Funnyshit :=D:

It happens to me, too. Not because of the new digital television signals.

It's not surely cable. Somewhere near your home, you'll find a small building with many satellite dishes. That's where your television signal is coming from. The satellite dishes feeds into your home.

I have cable. I know. I've got it plugged into the back of my television and I pay the cable company bill each month.

Before June 12 when the digital signal broadcast came into effect, my television viewing was rarely interrupted, and then only is an individual station went off the air or the cable went out for whatever reason.

Now, barely a day goes by when the programmes I watch don't freeze, pixelate, or stutter. And it's not just individual stations. When one freezes, I can find at least a dozen others which are also frozen. I'm guessing they are all coming from the same satellite feed.

Yesterday, we had some mild and distant thunderstorms. Nothing came anywhere close. Still, the signal froze time and time again.

If the governments are going to enforce a system, they should at least make sure that the system works.

i could'nt agree more. i am like okay. this digital acts up more than the regular cable. regular cable would sometimes be fuzzy. but digital goes blank, frozes, skips & jumps.

Yet we're paying the same fee for less viewing time. That's like paying to see The Sound of Music at a theatre and they've cut out all the songs.

Get satellite.

It will freeze occasionally when the weather is shit but most of the time is fine.

I hate the new digital signal too. I had to buy the "black box" converter, and hook it up to my t.v. and antenna. That pic freezes up when the wind blows! If I even move around my apartment, the signal gets disrupted.
