...to where I might be getting a real job offer!

And not just a flunkie job!

Turns out the store was looking for a FT Visual Merchandising Manager. They hired a very arty, young college graduate that evidently lasted one day. Turns out that it actually requires work! You actually have to move merchandise around! Horrors!

And I'm more of the type of person that works in the company. Comfortable with the base clients: older, affluent women with spending power of $50-70K a year.

On my way out today, I was asked if I could work FT next week. OK, fine, don't have a date or anything, and really could use some income.

They've had me working in quite a few departments this last week, starting with flunkie work then having me remerchandise an entire department. I asked the right questions, and found out that in most stores in the chain, there isn't too much deviation allowed from Corporate directives...but this store is an 'Orphan;' it was built two corporate permutations ago...and as a 'concept' store at that. So nothing is standard. The store associates are responsible for interpreting the general direction from Corporate and implementing what they can.

And they had me do that on Thursday and were thrilled with the results.

Later this afternoon found out I've been moved to the Visual Merchandising Department and my name is now third on the list. :gogirl:

Nothing solid yet but this sounds promising. But I was told that Vicki or Tammy or whomever wants to see me at 10:30 AM Monday. And I wouldn't have to push sell charge accounts. ..|

And that is so what I needed to hear...

Yooper, Ima bout to pm you!

The whole thing is just my cup of tea. With the exception of working for someone else.

But I would get to be creative, use my brain and customer skills, yet the actual work is so incredibly easy (for me).

I'm kind of tired of hauling around sheets of drywall, bundles of roofing shingles, always having something bloody, being forced to drive a vehicle I'm not fond of, never knowing where the next paycheck is coming from. The 50-60 hours of work, the 20 hours of administration is something one forgets. Being self employed is not as easy as it looks.

I loved working for myself. But the romantic world of being self employed is not all it is cracked up to be, but nevertheless something everyone should have an opportunity to try if it is your dream.

I was able to find the Corporation's job description (and salary range) for the position. It would be really nice to have a consistent, fairly decent paying job I could count on the income. And considering I'm lucky enough to have no rent or house payment in a VERY recovering market, I could be QUITE comfortable doing this.

no longer dependan on the weather or having to slave in it. don't have to worry about the lying customers trying to cheat you out of part of the bill or talk you down in price to where you barely break even but have to take the job to keep the doors open.

no more slow pays, no pays or want it all for nothings...yep, thats a lot to give up, starting with your independence (sic) and control over your work life.

CONGRATULATIONS AND GOOD LUCK :=D::-):-):=D:

That's fantastic! Sounds like a wonderful kind of position to have, and if it's something you're interested in doing, that's even better. Regarding working for someone else ... just remember ... health benefits! :)

It sounds like you're in competition with other people? I wouldn't think the skill set for a creative position like that, plus working with comfortable older women, would be all that easy to find.

Seems to buttress the theory that you were hired without a specific job, but with many places in the organization where you could fit, so having something specific wasn't too important to the company. Who knows, maybe it's a test to determine how you handle ambiguity! :D

Just checked the schedule for next week.

Two people have no hours.

Two people that I've been working with have 3 four hour shifts.

I have 40 hours.

This is Fantastic!! (!w!)

But, pardon my ignorance, what's FT?? :confused:

Keep smilin'!! :kiss:(*8*)
Chaz :luv:

If you dont' know, you won't know till you ask so,

FT = full time.

PT = part time.

That's a decent quesstion.

Very good news indeed!!! Hope it continues to go well for you, mate. ..|

Congratulations and Good Luck, Yoopy.

I had an similar opportunity a limetime ago - I wound up in the corporate offices doing planograms for the rest of the stores.

I helped grow the depts I was responsible for by 25% in a year -
in a complicated manner -
I worked for Glidden in a leased department.
Neisner's acquired the leases, then filed Chapter XI a month later.
They were negotiating w/ AMES for merger during the year, so the buying staff was slowly finding other employ.

As for all that shit you've been hauling, I buy/sell LOTS of Drywall, Insulation, Stud Steel, Ceilings. We don't do roofing and siding - we like making money.
:=D: :wave:
