Jack Wrangler, gay porn idol, dead at 62

NEW YORK (AP) — The 1970s gay porn idol Jack Wrangler has died at age 62.

Lewis Tice, director of publicity and marketing for TLA Releasing, a distributor of gay-themed independent films, says Wrangler died in New York City of complications of lung disease.

Wrangler starred in numerous gay adult movies and went on to become a musical theater performer. His life was chronicled in last fall's documentary "Wrangler: Anatomy of an Icon."

Tice says Wrangler starred in more than 80 adult films beginning in the 1970s.

Wrangler later married pop vocalist Margaret Whiting, who survives him.

He was gay. But, he did do straight porn movies. He just said he loved that lady more than anyone else. In the first part of their relationship, he still had sex with men. But, he stopped.

why do people consider him a hero, he said everything he did was to please his father. his dad called him a fag, and a sissy all the time, believe me he wasn't as "masculine" as everybody thought he was. but back in those times he seemed like it because most gay men in that era was so efemenite beyond BELIEF!!! How can a confused, insecure man who settles for a non-sexual marriage, be a pioneer for anybody? I've had close relationships with woman too, i love woman too, but i don't want to marry them, or do them. That is what you call it friendship! His wife probably could not get a straight man. how come she was worried about him having sex with men. she knew he was gay! why did'nt she try to stop him from smoking. So smoking is safer than sex! get real. who do people think they are fooling. most porn stars are wacko to begin with.

Clearly people haven't read about him or seen the bio. He and Whiting did have sex (probably not very often). the two of them came from similar roots--second string , behind the camera Hollywood and grew-up a few streets away from each other in Beverly Hills. Whiting had lousy luck with relationships and being with a gay guy made more sense for her than picking another lousy het. Wrangler hadn't had much success in the relationship department. In many respects, they made sense as a couple, esp. pre-any thought of gay marriage.

i read his interviews explaining his upbringing about having a strong hetero father, his father was one of the heavy weights who produced the western series bonanza way back when. I read alot. if you were a timid, feminine boy surronded by that all of your childhood, and teenage years, you would go out of your way to be ultra masculine too! the same is true for alot of gay men, and porn stars today.have'nt you ever heard of "hype" My hideous darlings.... nothing has changed that much. jack said he had to create an image, self explanitory! I'm not saying there is no masculine gay men. True masculine gay men don't have to prove themselves. why did'nt you comment on his smoking.
