Jail is better than homelessness ...

a LOT of homeless people INTENTIONALLY look to get charged for crimes so that they can get a little time - to shower - to eat.. they also go to hospital emergency rooms and claim they think they are having a heart attack because that is one claim that the hospital legally cant ignore and must admit them to run test - thus a shower and food...

not sure why they denied bail - it's not like he is a flight risk or a danger to society - he has proven he is harmless for 30 years - and the initial charge is laughable at this point - growing pot - I suspect he will be out - and homeless again - in a few months -

Can't blame him, three meals a day, somewhere warm to sleep, showers, cock a plenty.

No, Prisons are modern day slavery.

It's also very, very sad and telling that this is how people feel. Imagine actually fixing the material conditions of people instead of them resorting to this just to get housed.

Prisoners help to serve capitalism.

Putting the homeless in jail means decent citizens don't have to look at them anymore.

Everybody wins!

This is an absolutely absurd argument. A homeless person would much rather go to the mission, the Salvation Army or a shelter before going to jail. Especially since some of hem have mental health issues. I guess next ya'll will want to round them up and perform medical experiments on them!!

Depends on the homeless person...

Wow, JUB has become a lock them up and forget them society, Go the USA.

It is tragic, isn't it? I don't think it is JUB...I think it is a viewpoint on the reality of life in the US and to some degree, Canada.

When the closed the institutions, they forgot one thing. The supports to keep people safe. And so a lot of people entered the system of offense/charge/conviction/sentencing.

I have spent 40 years working on alternatives. But even in Canada, a liberal socialist/capitalist state...too often our most vulnerable just keep falling through the cracks. Decriminalizing drugs would solve this.

I hope you are able to help more people.

Just for the record, this was sarcastic.
