Wow

Here you have the Obama administration closeting Fox News ........

And a member of ABC News calls him on it - Jake Tapper

A great moment

And Pres. Obama's Press Secretary Robert Gibbs .........

well he whiffed

this is a very sad Presidency indeed

good to see the other news organizations realizing that this could very well be them next time and it's just not right

Raise a glass for Jake Tapper

From this morning’s gaggle in White House press secretary Robert Gibbs’ office:
Tapper: It’s escaped none of our notice that the White House has decided in the last few weeks to declare one of our sister organizations “not a news organization” and to tell the rest of us not to treat them like a news organization. Can you explain why it’s appropriate for the White House to decide that a news organization is not one –
(Crosstalk)
Gibbs: Jake, we render, we render an opinion based on some of their coverage and the fairness that, the fairness of that coverage.
Tapper: But that’s a pretty sweeping declaration that they are “not a news organization.” How are they any different from, say –
Gibbs: ABC -
Tapper: ABC. MSNBC. Univision. I mean how are they any different?
Gibbs: You and I should watch sometime around 9 o’clock tonight. Or 5 o’clock this afternoon.
Tapper: I’m not talking about their opinion programming or issues you have with certain reports. I’m talking about saying thousands of individuals who work for a media organization, do not work for a “news organization” -- why is that appropriate for the White House to say?
Gibbs: That’s our opinion.

I guess the WH getting challenged is not a ratings winner here on JUB ;)

And Jake (who's cute) is not gonna be getting a Holiday card from members of the 85

And if FOX is so bad, what about the politically timeless wisdom of "Keep your friends close and enemies closer".

Tapper is a great journalist, doing a professional job.He should be commended.
What the administration is doing is only making Fox stronger....it's going to backfire, indeed it is already doing so.Conservatives aren't the only ones watching....plenty of independents, moderates, rational liberals.Americans are 40% conservative,35% moderate, only 20% or so liberal...center right oriented. The Obama Administration and the left had better live with it,or if they want to change the dynamic offer a serious vision to attract the broad middle rather than massive government dominated solutions to problems like health care, energy, and the like.

The Obama Administration is trying to kill the messenger(Fox) when it's the message that resounds so much.Instead of attacking the messenger....it would best engage and persuade Fox viewers they are on the right course,at least listen and make adjustments.Act like they really are interested in going beyond partisanship.Their typical idea of what constitutes bipartisanship is picking a few moderate Republican apples off the tree, but never really engaging Republican suggestions or imput beyond the token.Maybe not much different from George W. Bush's approach in reverse...but if you want to build a better system, someone has to start.

This is a fight the Obama Administration isn't going to win nor does it deserve to.Hopefully, the Washington press corps will give us more Jake Tappers.

The free press is so important to the success of our country -- any free country.

Tapper is to be thanked for doing his job. Too bad others are not doing theirs.

I never thought an enemies list would be allowed to build in the White House again -- much less have the "press" sit idly by, for the most part, and go along.

By not fighting this new enemies list - newspapers, magazines, and the networks risk becoming common blogs. No wonder circulation and listenership is down.

The media needs to get some balls.

What enemies list? You Republicans try so hard to accuse politicians you don't agree with as being as bad as Nixon. When are you going to learn that only the Bush White House sunk to Nixonian depths. No one else ever came close, Republican or Democrat.

The media needed a pair of balls during the run up to the Iraq where. They were too gutless to expose Bush's lies and, unfortunately, we ended up at war and tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of people ended up dead as a result.

I'm interested in why ABC News, CNN, and anyone else feels the need to defend Fox News's "honor." And I'd like the Fox News defenders here to explain in what capacity is Fox News news. (Using the word doesn't count.)

Because Tapper is not correct. Fox news is not a "news" network. It's a wing of the Republican party. :p

I like how the people in this vid say that ABC, CBS, NBC and all of the other networks don't do news. That Fox is the only one that does so.

Tapper, who is among very few real journalists left, knows that the criticism of Fox is not accurate. Their straight news programming is just as accurate as any other networks.

FOX news is not just Hannity, Beck and O'Reilly.
The Whitehouse Administration by this action is censoring what you can hear.
Whats next? Censor ABC, NBC,CBS,MSNBC and CNN when they report unfavorable stories about the administration?
If you do not like FOX news, Don't watch, It's that simple.

I agree that the White House should not be attacking Fox News. They should be ignoring them entirely. They want attention. Don't give it to them. Ignore them. Acknowledging them only gives them power they don't deserve to have, and it only gives them more steam with which to spread their lies.

Chance....Every line of the opening post of this thread on Jake Tapper is true.

Jake calling out the White House on the snub of Fox News was good journalism and just the right thing to do. Good that Jake had the courage to do this.

Jake Tapper might ought to get the Nobel Peace Prize. Oh, too bad, that already was awarded to a wanna be.

Problem is that Fox news is biased all day long. Nevermind the clowns. I lost respect for them during the Bush years. Then they hired Karl Rove and featured hacks like Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin as commentators. Then I saw the homophobia. I really saw how hyper biased they were when I saw how they pushed and promoted the teabaggings all day long.
I don't watch Fox News but I reserve my right to criticize them.

But sure, if I see Obama criticize real news networks like ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, PBS, etc...then I would definitely get pissed. ;)
Well I hate Ann Coulter,Loath Michelle Malkin and Karl Rove has a special place reserved in hell with Dick Cheney.
With that said the 1st amendment has no place in the Obama Administration?
Not even George Bush did that.
Speaking of Michelle Malkin, She had a column in our local paper, She twisted the truth and ignored facts, My co-workers and I poked fun at her facts and outright lies.
We all wanted her column to end.
Well we got our wish, she's been out over a year.
Now, All of us miss her because we no longer have her to criticize.
Removing FOX news, Will not end the criticism, But it will backfire, They have a huge audience and they would feel the same as you if your favorite were removed.
For the record I like the BBC for unbiased news.

Nah, If he can't tell the difference between real news and propaganda then Tapper doesn't deserve a Nobel Peace Prize. :p

I also hade no idea that Tapper was a conservative and a very good, personal friend to Fox News' Major Garrett.
Does anyone know when Tapper's contract with ABC is over? How long before he'll get a very good lucrative spot on Fox. ;)

Jake Tapper is not a conservative, and he is among the most respected journalists currently in Washington. He asks hard questions of ALL, and demands answers. That you're attacking him shows just how low you'll stoop in your attacks on Fox.

Have you ever watched the straight news programming from any of the major networks. It is ALL free of bias, and all accurate. During their straight news hours (which basically occur all day every day before 5-6pm), they offer no commentary and ONLY offer up what is happening in the US and the world.

Watch this vid. Pushing and promoting the teabaggers and exagerrating their numbers and lying isn't bias?

90% of that footage was taken from their commentary periods, which start at 6(ish). In what little I saw of Fox's straight news coverage during the lead-up to the protests, there were no previews as shown by that video.

The story and a commentary, Listen to what Marra Liasson of NPR has to say[ame="http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnyV2dCmzd0"]http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnyV2dCmzd0[/ame]

:grrr:
Right...notice how Beck, Hannity, O'Reilly and Van Susteren weren't in that vid whatsover, except of course for like a couple of seconds of Van Susteren and Beck on their regular news programming. Aren't they the ones that are on after 5-6pm? Gimme a break man.

Like I said, I can't take your posts too seriously now.

Actually, they were in there quite a bit. And you of all people should know how easy it is to manipulate video.

You had no idea that Tapper was a conservative? That's good. He kept that from you. Like the late Walter Chronkite did not show america that he was quite liberal all the time he was on the television news. That's good.

I don't think he'll be leaving ABC anytime soon,, and if he does, it is ABC's loss. I think that Charlie Gibson is not as liberal as some in the media would like for him to be and that is why he is stepping down for the very liberal Diane Sawyer to take that place at the Anchor of ABC news.

You don't think that reporters have friends in the business? It's the people they see more than their families. It's when they don't make a big deal of those friendships, that they do themselves and their news organizations justice.

I still feel that Tapper did the right thing, and for the most part leaving Fox News out of the circle by the White House, is not a welcome call by the other news outlets. Fox today, ABC tomorrow....that kind of singling out by your competition is not healthy and not in their best interest.
