I recently found out that there are a lot of Japanese bear man sites which can be accessed from various Chinese language picture exchange boards. As I cannot read Chinese myself, perhaps some of our Chinese-literate members could post some information or pictures here? I saw a few of them at a party and was told that they came from such sites...and the pictures were awesome!

I think it is a coomon misconception that the Japanese, Chinese and Koreans like other Orientals are all smoothies..heheh...hairy bodies are not common but not all that rare either. Even in classical Chinese art, men with hairy bodies are depicted. The clue I think is that such men are always drawn as being taller and more muscular than the usual Chinese-type. Same for the Japanese. If I am right, it's mainly the northern Chinese or those of northern descent, for example, who have bigger bones and hairy bodies. Quite toothsome and utterly delectable, I assure you!

My bf is Japanese and is into bears, I'm not sure if he is counted as a bear himself but he is much hairier than stereotypes of asian suggest.

you have to search for "bara" this is something like the meaning of hairy, big men. and yes, there is a lot of gay art and special porn and magazines dedicated to asian bears only.

The term to describe asians, is asian. We are not oriental! That word is what you use to describe a piece of furniture or a rug, and not a person or a whole race. ](*,)

Thanks for the feedback, Sparky, Colafanta and Hollywoodnight. I'll try it.

Digdug, "Asian" is NOT a race either. "Oriental" is just as honourable an adjective or noun (when capitalized) as "Asian". I don't have a problem being "oriental" (adjective). My RACE (noun) is Chinese (noun as used here but also an adjective), my citizenship Malaysian (BIG words...adjectival noun) and my first language, English (noun). So I would not use a word if I didn't know its real meaning.

Incidentally, I wouldn't normally refer to myself as Asian or Oriental, I admit, unless dealing with a somewhat dimwitted type who couldn't tell the difference between a Turk (also a RACE) and a Japanese (another RACE...surprise!)

But who cares? All I'm interested in is naughty pictures of big hairy, great looking Japanese bears.

Xiandarkthorne,

Well may be you have not been stateside in sometime (since the civil rights movement), but the word oriental (function adjective) is offensive and is a racist term. It would be calling someone who is latin, a spic. So may be we were both not being politically correct (big term-function adjective). In the future we could try to look for or request for, men of the orient, or bear men of the orient. I know that it is not that effective, but it not offensive to us fellow asian's.

And who care's. I care and about over a million other Asian-American's who deal with this type of racism daily .

Dear Digdug,
My sincere sympathies to you and a million other Asians stateside. Where I come from, we don't practise that kind of discrimination, you see. Admittedly, we do practise other kinds but then, I can't think of a single nation where discrimination of some sort isn't the norm.

And as I have never been to your country, I had no idea that perfectly good adjectives like "oriental" had become offensive in the present millennium. After all, words which I would certainly consider to be very rude if applied to me, are said to be high praise in your country nowadays. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't "shut up" which English speakers consider to be extremely discourteous, now an expression of admiration or envy where you live?

Your argument reminds me of the currrent one in semantics - that all those races whose racial types are written with "ese" at the end are inferior to those which end in "an" e.g. Chinese is inferior to German because of the final consonant/vowel combination. Would you really subscribe to such an argument? I dont know about you but I would not even consider such rubbish worth more than a good laugh.

And just to be semantically correct, isn't calling yourself an Asian technically incorrect? You dont even live in Asia so how can you be an Asian? Have you even been to Asia? Or do you call yourself an Asian because your ancestors came from Asia? In that case a good many of the people in your country should consider themselves Irish, Germans or Italians instead of Caucasian - thats how they are described, isn't it? Their ancestors came from those particular mountains even further back in time before yours left the Asian continent.

And, if you're so sensitive about being Asian rather than oriental, how come your avatar is a Hispanic? I believe they have never been considered anything but Occidental racially. I would really love to ask if you are also that which sounds very much like the name for the doctors' oath, but as a practising Oriental, I am much too polite to do so.

Oopsie....my sincere apologies to all those members of this board who might be offended by my use of the term "occidental" - I hope it hasn't also become a term of abuse nowadays.

Xi'an

PS
The apostrophe preceding an "s' is used to indicate possession. Are you trying to tell me something?

Just my point, were you come from ASIAN!! You are not the majority, you are the minority! You are not faced with the daily harassment, that the Asian-American's are faced with, lucky for you, but the rest of us are not so fortunate. Sorry that I have to cut this short, but I have to go to my brothers. Talk to you later.

Dear Digdug,
Where I come from we are all Asians and therefore in the majority, I presume...heheh...never mind, I have no wish to get into a long and convulted discussion about discrimination against either Asians or orientals. Please accept my apologies if I have offended your sensibilities.

In the mid-1990s, I worked in a largely Asian group at Boeing, mostly Vietnamese immigrants, and they all refered to THEMSELVES as "Oriental." None of them said "Asian."

The term "Asian" has only come along within the past 15 years or so. ("Maybe you haven't been stateside since the civil rights movement"??? Please.) There's a whole generation under the age of 50 that was raised saying "Oriental" as the proper and respectful way to refer to someone who might be from China, Japan, or another Far Eastern country.

But somewhere along the line, many Americans of Asian descent -- mainly younger -- decided they were "supposed" to be offended by the term.

To be racist, it would have to be INTENDED as a demeaning term. It's not like "Spic," as you said -- that word has never, ever been a respectful term for Latinos.

"Oriental" is out of date, passe... it is most certainly not "racist."

Oh dear...from being racist now I am passe...*sigh*...and here I was thinking I was such a kewl old fart...back to the drawing board, I suppose. OOpsie...I am not offending anyone by using the term "old fart" am I? Does that make me age-ist, too?

I hope "kewl" does not offend the English purists on this board. All these "ists" are making a dotard like moi sooo confused. And it was all I could cope with telling people I was non-Confucianist, non-conformist and non-pessimist...I swear I am going to stick to being just another dirty old man from now on. Hawhawhaw!!!

I have found the Books-Rose website very helpful in looking for hot Oriental older men.
