If you could pick any Jazz song to be performed for you what would it be?

I've been asked to request a (birthday) song for an upcoming performance (in July). It'll be performed by a quartet (guitar, saxophone, bass and drums). The singer is a female tenor.

The thing is, I don't know a lot about Jazz so I have no idea what to choose. I may just end up asking the singer for ideas... I like sultry songs.

sultry songs? the best:

at least in my very humble opinion. ;)

I love, love, love Queen Latifah's voice singing Jazz!

There are two songs listed here, just click on red arrow and listen away at:

Poetry Man
I Put A Spell On You

I think either one of these would fit the bill, give it a shot!(*8*)

i can't believe i forgot 'someone to watch over me.'

this one's performed by audra mcdonald:

I'm leaning towards "When Did You Leave Heaven." I really like Lisa Ekdahl's version. I can't find a video, but you can hear a short clip here:

It's on the Twin Falls, Idaho soundtrack.

I'm not sure it's appropriate, though. I'm going to see the singer on Monday and I'll have her help me think of something.

So I told her I like sad songs and she decided to sing Gloomy Sunday, which is one of my favorites. It's going to have a different arrangement than the Billie Holiday version (below).
