First and foremost: to the mods, I feel this should be a separate topic because it will deal with non X-Men movie ideas. Since there are so many Jean fans, I thought this would be a good time to give her a separate thread. With her appearance as Phoenix in X3, a lot of conjecture has been made about how she will be. :D Sorry if there's another thread somewhere about her, by the way. Also, this may contain a lot of spoilers for the newer Marvel storylines, so please beware!

Personally, I think the Phoenix itself should have been treated as a secondary mutation for Jean. When they wrote New X-Men, they changed around character appearances and powers, explaining it to be "secondary mutation." After a while, the Phoenix returns to Jean. At this point in time, shouldn't they just admit that the Phoenix Force and Jean Grey are ultimately the same entity? There's one special where someone tells her she is the Phoenix and the "immortals" or whoever are concerned about this.

Looking back on the history of Jean Grey, she's called out for help and the Phoenix answered. When the Phoenix committed suicide, it sent the memory of its time as Jean to her and upon rejection, to Jean's clone. She's manifested some bizarre tricks with her powers, and all she can say is that she is Phoenix. In the most recent storyline, the Phoenix Force resurrects her corpse! But in New X-Men, she died and is reborn in the future as Phoenix. How does this work out? Your thoughts?

My thoughts are that Jean saying she is the Phoenix is figurative than literal. I always thought she was saying that her personality was the embodyment of Phoenix( such a strong will, fiery attitude unyielding compassion) and that she would(Jean) rise again becuase of the Phoenix. The Phoenix force is supposed to be a primal force of the universe that can't be contained or destroyed. In instances it can be drwan up( with Jean and Rachel) but is predominetly its own entity that bonds with others. I think after a while it beomes accustomed to Jean and comes back to her -this could explain her secondary mutation her abilty to draw The Phoenix Force to her and wield better than others. Just my speculation (o) (o) (o)

Well, according to Endsong, she and the Phoenix aren't one, the Phoenix just is most compatible with her and the experience of being her. In fact, I think it's because Jean's the best wielder of the force that the Phoenix stays with her so much instead of Rachel or Professor Xavier or whatever.

There's speculation that in fact, though the phoenix is strong, Jean is actually stronger, which makes her the best wielder, because it won't burn through her like it did with Emma in Endsong.

I don't thinkt hat Phoenix is a secondary mutation. According to X-Men Forever, Jean is an Omega level mutant, which is a measure of her potential and how close a mutant is to being 'a' Phoenix. The Celestials apparently made mutants so that life would continue to grow since abstracts were always stopping life. The Phoenix is the final stage of evolution for alllife. So Jean is an Omega, meaning she has the mutant potential to tap into that cosmic living force and establish that connection with her powers. For Jean, that manifests as the Phoenix and all the psychic fire, whereas another Omega mutant such as Iceman might establish that connection and it would manifest in another way, an example being him changing into an ominpresent water being or soemthing.

There was a good example about Storm, too. It's generally considered that Storm is an alpha, meaning she's as strong as her mutant powers allow, but she cannot make that connection with the Phoenix. However, if she hypothetically were an Omega level mutant, her connection might manifest as changing her into the Lady of Light that she worshiped as a child or an elemental being.

So Jean's Phoenix abilites are mearly the personal manifestation that comes with her connection to the Phoenix...or at least, that's the theory. Whys he may have seen Quentin Quire at the end of New X-Men as well as the others in traditional Phoenix garb may just be because for anyoen who has formed the connection witht he Phoenix, that is how Jean will percieve them. Going back, Bobby might perceive Jean finally as an omnipresent elemental or Storm would perceive Jean as an elemental being such as herself or another Lady of Light.

It's been rumored that Jean's secondary mutation is the ability to ressurrect, but that's just rumor.

I agree, have you everbeen to Uncanny X-men.net or used the Wikipedia file, very helpful. We have seen multiple characters usinging it but not as effectly or as long( Rachel, Emma ,Quentin, Madeline, etc

uncannyxmen.net is the best, seconded by wikipedia. :)

I think Quentin is probably an Omega TP. He could probably put Cerebra to shame.

Jean Grey's been dead since the 1970s. Seriously. Ever since the Phoenix Saga, the Phoenix and Jean Grey have been inseperable. Her character has come to screeching halt in my opinion. Phoenix this and Phoenix that. Is Jean gonna flip out and consume the sun again?

If and when they bring her back, the NEED to step away from the Phoenix Force. Focus more on HER. No flame apparitions. No black dialogue bubbles. Just Jean. Let her grow. Hell, I would have her divorce Scott (their relationship was going nowhere...) and strike out on her own.

Yuty, she's died once again and has awakened like 100 or so years in the future. Scott had an affair and is now involved with Emma Frost.

Yeah, I know. And Emma Frost is mindfucking Cyke to the point where he actually gains control over his optic blasts.

I hope she doesn't turn evil again. I like her on the X-team. She brings interesting dynamics to the team...

How can a telepath restore brain damage? Even when the Phoenix was posing as Jean, with all that psionic power, the best she managed was to hold back the beams with TK..

Emma is a great addition to the X-Men (I loved her in Generation X) because she's got that ruthlessness to her personality that they've lost. Wolverine used to have it, to an extent, and Emma's replaced it wonderfully with her sarcasm

I think Joss Whedon retconned the "brain damage" bit into a "I'm unconsciously putting limits on my powers" bit. Ooookay...

I love Emma too. She's such a bitch...but in a good way.

The dynamic between her and Jean was great because there was that history between them for so long. When I think of them both together, I just remember "Thanks for the help, Emma" from the 'Nuff Said issue of New X-Men

I tend think of this scene:

Jean: What makes you such a bitch, Emma?

Emma Frost: Breeding, darling. First class, breeding.

Cruella De Vil has nothing on Emma...

That is a classic line. Thank you for reminding me of that!

I am HUGE Fan of Emma( she's my third favorite after Rogue and Mystique) and I ve always loved and respected Jean, ptting those two on the same team was pure genius. Remember when Jean catches Scott and Emma on the Astral Plane having an affair :=D: :=D: :=D: Those two were awesome together but htey had to kill one telepath to keep one as a mainstay ](*,) But Emma is doing her thing. (o) (o) (o)

Yep,im another emma fan after psylocke and storm, but emmas really high there.
that scene with emma wearing the Dark phoenix outfit with scott in his boxers and jean walking in was CLASSIC.

Pity they seem to be cutting down all the teletaphs, emma is pratically the only tele-x-man now,but she fills the role Very well.

What is up with Scott? He has been with almost every leading psychic on the planet(X-Men Planet of course).I mean he's been with Jean,Maddy,Emma, and Psylocke(granted it was mainly flirting).

Oh and I would just love to see Emma and Jean get into a all out brawl. The issue where Jean "attacked" Emma mentally was so awesome.Of course it did end up with Ms. Frost getting shattered into a million pieces, but thanks to Jean and Henry she managed to pull herself together.

Jean did have a brawl with Emma back in the 1970's (during the Dark Phoenix Saga) and if I recall, she kicked some serious ass.

Yay! Emma hijack! Emma's awesome :D

As of the newest issue of Astonishing, it turns out it wasn't really barin damage. Scott made the decision as a child not to control his powers so he would always have a reason to force hismelf to control something. If he already controlled it effortlessly, he wouldn't have anything to battle against. If he couldn't control it, he would always have to be in charge and aware so it wouldn't be unleashed and cause something devestating. It basically gave him a sense of control and purpose while his world as a child was being ravaged by devastation. So Emma went back to that time, which he hid in his memory (subconscious) such that neither Professor X or Jean or anyone else could ever find it, and helped him over it, but in doing so it redefined everything that Svott was. So now he's in control, but a near vegetable.

Oh and if you want to see an Emma/Jean brawl, check out this thread that evolved into Brijan v. Me.
