He was greatest ex-president we have ever had.

As opposed to most politicians he lived by the values he expounded.

I am glad that he is going to be honored while Joe Biden is in office because I can't imagine the way Trump would make the funeral about Trump.

President Carter's speech at his Nobel Prize ceremony in Oslo in 2002, 3.5-minute excerpt

His theme was the worst problem facing the world in the 21st century, the disparity of wealth.

While I do agree with the sentiment the greatest ex-president we ever had was John Quincy Adams. His work as a U.S. rep in the battle against slavery was inspirational and on the issue even to his friends and family he was an enormous pain in the ass.

I do think Carter was certainly the most decent man we had as president in the 20th century.

Is this codenamed something like Operation Brooklyn Bridge?
I'm not aware. There is a federal military task force charged with coordinating state funerals, which necessitates working alongside presidents' families to align private ceremonies, federal observances (like lying in state in the Capitol Rotunda) as well as any state-level activities, in this case, Georgia. I imagine everything will be posted soon today. I hope Carter lies in state in Atlanta prior to January 2nd when I return to work from our holiday break. Atlanta is only 3 hours drive from here, and I would like to see in person this bit of history in the making.

Ex-president Carter once gave a speech at my alma mater a few years after I graduated, but I lived nearby and was able to attend.

I was in elementary school when President Carter was in office. Jimmy was an inspiration for my life. He’s the reason for my volunteer work over my life, and how I treat my fellow Americans

And I don’t think it’s an insult to just call him Jimmy. He was everyone’s friend and family.

I was a college freshman when Jimmy Carter became president. I thought I knew the country of my birth and its people, but it was Jimmy Carter that showed me that the USA talks pretty but doesn't really mean any of it - unless we grow to become the people we claim to be.

When people today aske me what it was like to grow up in the South during the 1960's - I tell them that 99% of the people in Old Dixie were like Jimmy Carter.

From the personnel at NATO headquarters to the scientists at NASA at Langley, I found myself surrounded by people who knew the USA was headed to land a man on the Moon.

I grew up surrounded by people who didn't look at the ground beneath their feet but looked up at the stars overhead. I learned to look upwards too.

A surprisingly negative assessment from The Grauniad:

The assessment sounds fair. He was not an effective leader in office. Would that we all could live long enough to overcome our most public mistakes.

Some of Carter's most endearing traits were his candor, lack of arrogance, and his enduring optimism.

He made big mistakes in office, and he made big gains for humanity afterward. That's a great man's legacy, to be sure.

Was your spelling of Guardian a deliberate jab at their proofreading, or just a typo?

The Schedule has been published for the funeral services and viewings. He will lie in state in the Carter Center from Saturday afternoon on Saturday, January 5th, untitl Tuesday, the 7th. I think I can attend on Epiphany.
