Last Updated: Monday, June 14, 2010 | 10:52 AM ET
CBC News

Country music star Jimmy Dean, who later became a North American household name for his eponymous sausage brand, has died at the age of 81.

The Grammy-winning singer died at his Henrico County, Va., home on Sunday evening, according to his wife, Donna Meade Dean. According to police, Dean died of natural causes.

Though the singer had suffered some health issues, he had been doing well, so his death came as a shock, she said.

He will be remembered everytime I walk by the ssausage section of the Grocery store.

Never heard of him or the sausages. Household name? Sorry to hear it though.

I'm sure our Piggy has mixed feelings about this...

His thoughts are probably in a scramble.

To be completely honest, I wasn't quite sure if he was a real person or a made-up corporate entity.

Like Betty Crocker, Uncle Ben or Aunt Jemimah.

!oops!

I've never cared for country music, but my mother loved him to death. We watched his variety show every week.

Yeah I remember that song Big John from my parents time. Love the sausage; both literally and figuratively;)

I remember his singing of BIG BAD JOHN and his tv show. It was one of the many country music shows my Dad used to watch back then. Also remember him as Willard Whyte in DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER.
