Joe the Plumber: No "Queers" Near Kids

By Trudy Ring

Samuel Wurzelbacher, who under the nickname "Joe the Plumber" was taken up by the 2008 Republican presidential campaign as a symbol for the common man, says in an interview with evangelical magazine Christianity Today that he has had gay friends but that he "wouldn't have them anywhere near my children."
In the interview, posted Monday on the magazine's website, Wurzelbacher says those friends know where he stands on homosexuality, and he says the word queer "means strange and unusual" and is "not like a slur." He also voices his opposition to marriage equality, saying, "God is pretty explicit in what we're supposed to do -- what man and woman are for." However, he says the question of whether to grant marriage rights to gay couples should be up to each state, and he says the same about abortion rights.
He goes on to assert that the Republican Party pays only lip service to religion, voice his support for Sarah Palin if she runs for president in 2012, call 2008 nominee John McCain the lesser of two evils, and tackle a range of other subjects in the interview, conducted Monday at an event near Chicago.

What an ASSHOLE !! :grrr:

Now, he's trying to back out of what he said in pure Christian bullshit style.

"Queer means 'strange and unusual' Not like a slur. "

Not like a slur ?? Oh ! Well then, no offense taken, you backwoods piece of homophobic trash.

Why the hell is he still in the media spotlight ?
Thoughts ?

I think you see the "new" face of the Republican party. With what the former VP Cheney said concerning Gen. Powell.....there is only room for this type of believer in the party.

Way to go! And I think calling Joe the Plumber an asshole is insulting to all assholes in the world! Haha!

Why the hell is that idiot still getting air time--the dumbass is not even a freakin' plumber anyway!!!

And his name's not Joe. ;)

I'm torn about him...on one hand, he's an ignorant fuck who makes me want to punch babies.

On the other hand, he's putting it front and forward the idiocy of the extreme right wing, of which I'm always in favor.

And he's dumbing down the gene pool, procreating his brood of half-wits.

Why is it that ugly fucks like him who think every gay guy is out there to convert him and his children. Even I have better taste than that.

However, I should point out that it's somewhat surprising to see that he's in favor of letting states decide the fate of gay marriage.

The more he talks, the longer the democrats will be in power.

Just a typical RePUGnantCON mindset.

And of course it's OK to say FAG as well, because it's just another name for cigarette (principally British) and not at all offensive, don'cha know...

If he will not let his 'friends' spend time with his family, is that really a friend?

Of course not... With friends like him.... oy.

If I didn't know better, I'd say he was slowly gearing up for running for some sort of office soon...

He's covering his bases by saying the ol', "Some of my best friends are..." line.

As if that begins to cover up for his sickening, homophobic ignorence.

I tried to be near his kids, but I was deterred thanks to the entrance fee. Times are bad, I know, but what's with the price hikes on circus freaks?

You see, some of us aren't so obvious. One of his kids could be gay. One of their friends could be gay. Somebody close to him might be gay. You never know where we all are until we say so.

What does he call a friend? Just because you are willing to speak to someone does not make them a friend. If he will not let his 'friends' spend time with his family, is that really a friend?

A "friend", to him, is probably someone he refrains from spitting on.

I hired an electrician once, we'll call him "Joe", who had a huge Jesus cross on the back of his truck. I figured he would at least be trustworthy. Wrong! He was the biggest flake I dealt with in my remodel job -- the ex-hippie stoner longhair who did my drywall was ten times more reliable. I finally fired "Joe" and hired someone else to finish what he started.

I learned my lesson -- people who trumpet their "Christianity" aren't what they seem. Give me an authentic flake anytime, not a phony flake! :D

I understand the outrage over the "won't let them near my kids" comment, but I don't understand the outrage over his use of the word "queer."

The US Cable channel Bravo had a successful series called, "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" and I don't recall any objections from the gay community.

The US Cable channel Showtime had a successful series called, "Queer as Folk" (based I believe on a British show) and I don't recall any objections from the gay community.

In 1990, an AIDS/gay rights activist group was formed called, "Queer Nation."

Do "gay" people own the exclusive rights to the term "queer?"

Is the relationship between the "gay" community and the term "queer" analogous to the relationship between "blacks" and the term "nigger?"
That is to say, it is fine if gay people appropriate and use the term, but objectionable if others do?

Who the fuck is joe the plumber. And why should anyone give a shit what falls out of his mouth?
