Does anyone watch this show? I started watching past episodes and I'm having a hard time figuring this show out. I mean, I can sort of keep up with whats going on in the show, but theres just something weird about the way its written... and acted... Does anyone else feel this way? I feel like the only reason I watch it is to figure out whats "wrong" with it.... (hopefully at least some of that made sense).

Finally someone made a thread about this show, i mean seriously, why the hell did it take so long.

And there still isnt a Big Love thread...hint, hint!!! Now thats an awesome series. Its 10 times better this season an it got picked up for a 3rd.

So anyways i agree it is a very quirky drama with a lot going on so you have to keep up. But i have watched from the start and i still dont have a clue whats going on LOL. Its like everything doesnt quite mesh yet.

I do like it though, it is very different from other dramas, but its so quirky i think it will turn off some viewers.

I like how its written though, the writing is smart. The Ed Oneil character, i always have a pen and paper handy when he speaks.

And i like the supernatural aspect of it too.

I've been watching from the start as well and should have given up on ep 3.

So, there is a family of has been drug using surfers ... and when they surf in San Diego there is never anyone else out in the water with them ... Some retard shows up ...

I keep hoping something will happen so I won't feel like I'm wasting my time.

LOL i know after a few eps i was like why am i still watching this? I dont fully get it but for some reason i still watch it, i guess i am hoping for a big real where everything will make sense and fall into place.

And the way some of the characters talk is so odd. This show should come with a manual or backstory. Its like the series premiere wasnt the first episode like i am missing something.

Flight of the concords is pretty funny though although Bret ticks me off sometimes. He is too full of himself, like the band cant go on without him, not to mention he ran off while his friend was being mugged.

YES!!! Its the way the characters talk (and not just the cookoo John), all the characters talk... strange.... I dont know if its bad acting or if they talk like that on purpose... its trange. I still watch it though... i like the show.. its just odd...

There is a mini marathon going on now.

Yea, from what I hear the show has been cancalled, but they're gonna show the last 5 or so episodes of the series.

If it is canceled i wouldn't be surprzed because the season finale is Sunday and i dont have a clue what really is going on ro what the show is about.

Yea, i read on Newsweek that "John...." was meant by HBO to be a replacement for "The Sopranos"; HBO was really hoping that "John..." would be a hit. "The Sopranos" was a huge hit for HBO, but with it gone, they're really gonna have to find something to get more viewers. "Big Love" is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.... too soon to tell.

Yea Big Love has really gotten good this season. First season was boring no drama but its looking good now.

I finally saw the opening episodes and the recent episode and will watch the finale tonight. From what I read, the reviews are mixed and the production costs probably too high for the relatively low number of viwers. So it's unlikely to see a second season.

Liked what I saw. I didn't really have any expectations so I didn't find the wandering plot lines too bad. Liked the John character and a few others. I thought the teenage surfer looked the part, but he needed to be much more charismatic than he was on the episodes I saw.

My sense is that it would have made a reasonable made-for-TV movie. As a series, it comes across as taking all its new age/David Lynch stuff and mysteries a tad too seriously.

Could someone PLEASE explain that ending for me? I was scratching my head for a while and still can't figure it out.

^ There is no simple explanation. One of the reasons the show wasn't renewed was that too much of it wasn't really that thought out. Maybe that was the point.

The problem with the ending was that it had to deal with the possibiliy that the show would get renewed so it had to leave things in the air to be picked up later.

According to what I've read, John is undefined Christlike/alien figure whose innocence and/or ignorance changes things around him. I thought it was great the way he repeats things and, as one commentator said, takes the evil intent out of them. In the first season, John, in effect, reconciles the family members and puts them in touch with the miracle aspects of life, like catching an inexplicably awesome wave.

I've met one or two people like that. Unexpected things and coincidences happen around them. Maybe they do if you're open to them?

The later seasons would have had something to with a plot to attack Muslims in revenge for 9/11. Hence, the 9/11/14 stuff that kept on coming up.

To be glib, if Christ were to come today, it might be in a surfing community and he might get a surfing promotion company to widen his message. As that process goes on, it foils the anti-Muslim plot.

The digital signals in video cameras are part of the process of linking in with the divine side of life because they have their own reality. 9/11 only happened once. But the reality of its horror and tragedy is constantly repeated on video and film. Hence, it follows that goodness and miraculous events can be similarly repeated. At least that's what I read on one of the blogs. Get the picture.

The bird coming back towards the end is one such miracle that the dead wife now misses.

The Mother of God Cass-Kai stuff is a John-like repetition of what I think Kai says to Cass, when Cass calls her a chick and Kai replies, "It's Cass. Kai." The Mother of God reference has presumably something to do with Cass' role as the video reality maker combined with Kai's past and presumably future mothering role. Kai's surfing is made real in Cass' video of it. It's meaning would maybe have been clarified in the cancelled Season Two. Maybe.

I didn't see the whole series, but enjoyed what I saw. I think it would have made a good movie rather than series. Without a good plot line episode by episode, the spiritual stuff just wasn't enough to carry most people with it. Pity.

Well, thanks for that. I agree, it should have been a movie, or mini series. I don't think I could have put up with the screaming granny much longer even though she looks hot. There was plenty of talent on screen but it kinda fell flat, story wise.
