Yup - this is one of the best the Republicans will have to offer - and both he and Giuliani will do very well with Dem/Indy voters - get ready for that

The Dems would love someone other than McCain or Giuliani to get the nomination - then they could attack them as Republican ideologues

And he is a serious candidate who speaks his mind much more often than others

MoveOn.org to target McCain in Iowa and New Hampshire


WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A liberal political advocacy group will launch simultaneous television ads in Iowa and New Hampshire next week criticizing Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, for his call to increase the number of U.S. troops in Iraq.

MoveOn.org will spend more than $100,000 on the ads, MoveOn.org Political Action Executive Director Eli Pariser told CNN in an interview. McCain is seriously considering a run for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination.

In a prime-time address to the nation Wednesday, President Bush will call for sending an additional 21,000 to 24,000 U.S. troops into Iraq.

"We are going to do significant buys in New Hampshire and Iowa with an ad that takes McCain on, on his escalation plan," Pariser said. "Because this is ultimately his idea that Bush is implementing and primary voters need to know that."

Pariser would not specifically comment on the content of the ad, but said it would be released next Tuesday with the initial airing beginning later that week.

A McCain spokesman declined comment on the group's plan to target the senator.

Chance, it isn't what he believes in -- it's that he's a slick scoundrel who can't be trusted. He says he's for free speech, and introduces legislation to stifle it. He says he favors the Second Amendment, and goes along with legislation to cripple it -- right with Al Gore, there, who went from being a Hubert Humphrey Democrat fully supporting the Second, then decided it's about hunting. One day he's for gay rights, another he isn't. One day he despises the heavy influence of the religious right, the next day he's sucking up to Jones and Falwell.

If that's the best the Republicans can do, things are looking really bad. I only see one Democrat worth voting for, and he isn't even running, it seems; if McCain is the best the other guys have to offer, then the American people are going to be choosing from toxic crap and putrid crap.

Who is the one Democrat, you would vote for. Sorry I'm nosey and would like to know. And choosing between toxic and putrid crap isn't that almost every election in the entire country.
 
McCain - playing the position game for the primaries. Looking at his main opponents in the primary and then positioning himself accordingly.

Would be nice of him to discuss his involvement in the Keating 5. The Democrats got rid of their people in the scandal, but as is true for Republicans, they keep re-electing the guilty and admiring them.

But since McCain started planting his tongue firmly up the asses of Jerry Falwell and Company, I've lost the respect I once had for the man.

I don't agree with him on everything but unlike most all modern day politicians he is putting his beliefs/principles ahead of his wants.

I love the guy

He is very much like Joe Lieberman who got torpedoed by special interest groups in the CT primary but DID NOT change his views. He got re-elected

McCain is to be commended for his stance - whether u agree with him or not.

Edwards will win the election. The only thing that will offer up a republican win is if you guys get caught up in yourselves and run Hillary or Barrack. John Macain hasn't got a chance

Well, my Dad was 1/2 Blackfeet and my Mom 1/4 Apache-Lipan and I really wasn't offended by "buck".
But what I do find offensive is calling McCain brave.:badgrin:

McCain lost hos bravery a long time ago. His 2005 extended interview published in the New Yorker really showed what a craving for political success he has - he lusts for the presidency more than any of us lust for anything.
 
McCain is worse than Bush. He calls Jerry Falwell a messenger of peace. Voted for torture. Changes his position on the Iraq war every five seconds. Lies and then pretends he didn't say what he said two seconds again a la Cheney. Told Bush it was okay they smeared his family. He speaks at Bob Jones University every other week. He's another Republican Neocon, and the worse of the bunch. He'll be 72, he's had cancer a handful of times, and he stands for nothing. The worst is McLame who has no chance.

After calling for a troop surge and getting his wish, now it seems that McCain is wanting even more troops:

Though full-throatedly backing Bush's plan, McCain is also starting to put out the word that he'd prefer that Bush were sending more troops to Iraq than the President has announced he'll send. This means, of course, that if escalation fails McCain may be able to dilute its impact on his political fortunes by saying success might have been possible if escalation had been carried out completely to his liking.
