  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Johnny Weir, Not friendly enough for A Family Audience.

Fucking homophobe swine. Fucking smuckers is probably owned by some evangelical vermin who watch the 700 club. I'll never buy any fucking smuckers again. Sons of bitches. Fuck IMG too.

Of course, I signed.

Yay!! More support! (*8*)

It's a really dumb move on their part. He has a HUGE fan base. He's really the only reason I got excited about the figure skating portion of the olympics. He'd bring in so many viewers...a hell of a lot more than he would scare away. Morons.

I would have gone to it if he was in it, but since he isn't I have no interest.

As for signing, even if they would let him in now, I refuse to give them any money.

So sign it anyway and show your support to him. Doesn't mean you have to go, you can continue your protest by not going.

1) I doubt he would ever see it. It wouldn't really be showing him support.
2) He doesn't seem the type that would want to go work for homophobic asses anyway.
3) By signing it, if he does start to work for them, he may bring in other fans which would be supporting the homophobic asses.

For me it is not enough just not to give them my money. I want no one to give them money. As I said they I don't he would work for them now anyways unless he got a nice cut of money.

Last night when I signed, there were only around 4,300 signatures. Now there are close to 7,000. That's pretty cool.

There's enough of a stink that Stars on Ice had to address this. Unfortunately, it was just a lame denial.

They better wise up quick and at least extend the invitation (I wouldn't blame Johnny for turning it down now).

Hopefully he'll have the balls to tell them to get bent. But I'm guessing the money for the performers would be good.

He comes off as the type as not to let them get away with it. Meaning he would want more money than the others and/or promotion to be a part of the tour.

Johnny Weir cannot be allowed to skate for the "Stars on Ice Tour."

Excellent figure skating by annoyingly flamboyant queers would destroy heterosexual marriage in America.

I find it really sad that so many US skaters are willing to join a tour that openly discriminates against gays as long as it will pay them, and so many fans will buy tickets. Does no one have the moral fortitude to stand up for what is right? If the tour had a ban on blacks or Jews, would Evan Lysacek, Tanith Belbin, Sasha Cohen and Jeremy Abbott all be willing to skate and take a paycheck anyway? Is it okay to support discrimination as long as YOU are not the one being discriminated against. Shame on them.

People need to boycott both Stars on Ice and all Smuckers products (that includes Knotts Berry Farm jams, Crisco, Folgers, JIF peanut butter and Folgers coffee). Giving these people your money is supporting discrimination.

This is pretty much my position on this. Is Weir disliked by the other skaters or do they just not care?

This is one gay man who is so disappointed that GLAAD would post a story bashing Smuckers. I live near the corporate headquarters for Smuckers and what you may not realize is

SMUCKERS STARTED OFFERING SAME SEX DOMESTIC PARTNER BENEFITS THIS YEAR.

This has nothing to do with Weir being gay, and everything to do with his particular anti-family friendly behavior.

GLAAD maybe you should applaud Smuckers for its actions earlier in the year rather than bash them for wanting to hire skaters that know how to behave themselves.

Does anyone know if the first part is true? And what is so unfriendly about him?

^ I've always kind of imagined him to be kind of snooty. you know with his LV purse and all..I could be wrong though

and about the Smuckers thing
http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/bestcompanies/2010/snapshots/47.html
look under notes. yea they did offer same sex domestic partner benefits.
maybe cuz Weir's performances...are more sexual in nature? no idea. figure skating is pretty gay lol. but I havent seen any other male figure skaters do the pelvis grinding motion. lol

He does come off that way to me bit too. Also he seems to be the type to offend a lot of people by doing very little. Coming off snooty probably doesn't help.

As for Smuckers, very cool. Now they just have to be consistent, because they seem to be doing a double PR move.

Well how much should they really care? I mean of course it isn't right, but should people really expect them to turn down one of the probably very few ways to make good money in the off season for a cause that doesn't really effect them all that much?

As far as him being snooty, he took time out of his day to talk to a random fan online (me) and he was nice to me.

They should care because it is the right thing to do, but that wasn’t my point. I know most people are not like me in this regard. I was just asking in an odd and roundabout way if any of those people are his “friends”. If they are not, it doesn’t really matter. If they are, they are showing their scruples.

With that said do you not think Smuckers would give them even more if most to all said they wouldn’t do it because of this? Do you think they could sell the same amount of seats with the even smaller names? There is no way Smuckers will cancel Stars on Ice. It’s been going on for years and I am sure it makes quite a bit of money. They could make even more if they played it right.
