Hi,

Recently I decided to join the Navy through a medical program. But the issues arise when I have to do Security Clearance. I have to basically list all my life history there. Over the course of time, I have three jobs. Two of them are part-time. One is pizza delivery in which I couldn't get the manager's info because he moved. The other one I quited not on good term. !oops!

Do you guys think I should list all of them or just list the one I feel positive about?

Thanks,

Have a happy holiday guys,

The fact that you actually asked this questions leads me to believe you won't be a good fit for the Military. It sounds like you have 0 integrity, and quite frankly, I wouldn't want to work with you.

PS- If they catch you being dishonest of deceitful in the application process, you're canned on the spot, no questions. At least that's how it is up here...

Lying to the Military is never a good idea.

And certainly not over something as trivial as this....

Thanks :) for the advise. I just don't want anything to hurt my chances

Ideally you shouldn't lie to any potential employer during the application process, but the Military is the last one you should do this with.

They will do background checks, and if you lie, they'll find out.

Just be honest and if they have questions, explain.

Though I doubt this would be a serious issue.

I had to do something like this before I joined the military. It was a security clearance and a waiver because I had gotten into some trouble when I was younger.

I was honest about most things but there was a time when I was getting interviewed by some big shot commander. I guess they had done a background check of some sort and he had asked me about a particular job I had. I was fired from this job and when he was asking me about why I left the job I made it seem that I'd left by my own terms and he asked me again something related to it, like if I was sure and I told him I voluntarily left.

I could tell by the way he looked at me he knew I was lieing. He must have had some information on this but he knew it. I could see it in his face but he still granted me a waiver to enlist.

Don't lie. They'll know you're lieing. I don't know how they get it but they can find whatever job history information they want on you so it's best to just be honest.

If I was you though I'd choose the air force over the navy. I'm just biased but I also think the Navy's uniforms look like crap. :p

Thanks :) I heard Navy has more gay guys. Better date potential lol

Be honest. I have friends in the military, and that's what they would say too.

Few people have a spotless records. I have friends who have gotten security clearances, they were honest with their past. I think that's what they cared about the most too, honesty. And if they don't take you fine. If they do and they find out, you're done.

FBI agents do the background check, and they talk to everyone you list and maybe more, plus check court records, arrest, etc. They also talk to your parents and siblings and I'm sure check their background too. Your teachers are another source of information for them.
Do not lie,,,,,,,,,,,, they will know and lying is seen as worse than anything but a felony. Just tell the truth , no one lives a perfect life, if they have questions about your past answer them truthfully. They will likely overlook minor infractions.

Your thinking about lying is distrubing. Better hope they don't read JUB.

I'm Active Duty Navy and have have a security clearance. I can tell you that lying won't help you and being deceitful or vague wont help you either. It is best to be upfront and truthful about everything they ask of you. I listed all my "safe" friends for them to talk to and interview and they didn't interview them. What they did was ask for more references from my friends I gave them. They talked to friends that I had not told to keep their mouth shut about stuff...LOL. They are aware that everyone isn't a saint but along as you don't have any felonies or some major skeletons in your closet you should be fine. It's when they catch you lying they know you cant be trusted to keep national secrets and therefore no clearance for you.

They will check in places that you won't even think of. So if you want out of it, then you could lie as it will get a bus ticket home so fast, real fast.

Yet if you feel there is nothing to hide and you are honest with your self, family, friends, and you have good morals,

then you would not have asked that question. The way it sounds like is you have more to hide than what you wrote about. And you afraid they will find out about it.

but remember they will find out everything about you, my honey's nephew has gone through this 2x's and they asked him things he long forgot of and or things more recent that he wondered how they knew......... they find out everything......so do what you feel, but don't get caught in a lie to the military..

I am a hospital corpsman in the navy, which is essentially what your going to be doing.

The Navy is getting really tough on the selection process right now though. You have to have a good ASVAB score out of the box, and be physically fit out of the box as well. I don't think they take any hits on your record anymore like drug pops or DUI's. Especially DUI's.

As for your previous work history, they don't care. They will teach you everything you need to know after boot camp. They don't expect you to know anything going into your A school.

Unless you are going for a higher security clearance, the background check is basic, and they take your word for what you put on your applications.

Now if you have had any obvious run ins with the law, they will know, but more other stuff, they don't bother unless you will be working in a sensitive area that requires a higher security clearance, then they get in your business.

It is NEVER a good idea to start off working for a new place with a lie. Especially in a place that can find out about them real quick.
