Ummm, who?

Ummm, who?

If you don't want to watch all the videos his followers are posting, there are two good secondary sources on him in posts #1 and #2. They're both from a critical perspective. The NYTimes article generated a lot of subsequent discussion, especially around the notion of "enforced monogamy."

I was being cheeky honeysuckle. :gogirl:

Okay then. Since we're not actually going to take a detour involving a raw egg yolk and Fab's vagina, here's a rambling vignette of the man himself, carefully contemplating...himself!

Ummm, who?...

Chidi Dillibe is someone who says people should take responsibility for their own life circumstances and stop embracing the current fashion for victimhood.

If you don't want to watch all the videos his followers are posting, there are two good secondary sources ...

I disagree.

Almost everyone here has been getting themselves fouled up because they're following secondary sources instead of the prime source.

For instance. Someone can't claim to have read Victor Hugo's novel 'Notre-Dame de Paris' by watching the Walt Disney cartoon version of it.

You don't go to restaurant and have the chef serve up a regurgitated meal.

I realise so many JUBBers (including the university student here) are happy to look at regurgitated commentary rather than watch the man himself in a ten-minute video.

This "victimhood" card is waaaaaay overplayed, now it's just a euphemism for "I don't give a fuck about your problems so shut the fuck up." There are legit problems in the world and they'll never be solved if the default response becomes "Suck it up, snowflake."

"My dad raped me for seven ye-" "Wahhhhh wahhhhh"
"My arm was blown off in Iraq" "Let me find my violin"
"I'm ten thousand dollars in debt" "I'll call you a wah-mbulance."
"My brother, a non-violent first time offender, was sentenced to twelve years" "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time"

Ironically, I've found this "victimhood card" is often played by the same people who will go to therapy for two years after their Pomeranian croaks.

You are very smart,
therefore high probability of lying or you just want to bump up thread for annoying gif sake.
Lol!!! Burn.

I think Peterson in very logical, maybe too logical, for today's complicated political climate. But for as long as the ANTIFA crowd stirs shit up, Peterson's population will grow, it's a balance, and society needs balance. All the power to him.

Not [STRIKE]really[/STRIKE] at all. But if you're that desperate for a dig I could roast myself better than that.

What's complicated about one group hoarding all of the media, economic, social, political, governmental and educational power and indiscriminately shooting down anyone who dares challenge it?

I think it's quite telling that rather than actually engaging with the various direct criticisms I've put forth of Peterson's ideas/conclusions, people are instead choosing to defend Peterson himself as a rational/logical individual. It's a complete non-sequitur and it deflects the conversation away from actually scrutinising the things he has to say. I have a hot take as to why people are motivated to do this and it may or may not be accurate, but I think it has to do with their own self-identity as rational/logical individuals and their unwillingness to challenge that identity.

They agree with either some of or a lot of the conclusions Jordan Peterson has reached and they view themselves as rational beings, so when other people directly criticise the logic/rationality Peterson has used to reach some of these conclusions, they feel it's an attack on their own identity as logical individuals and jump to his defense. But, nobody here is actually actually addressing the arguments I'm putting forth about why many of his conclusions are illogical or why his thought processes are oftentimes irrational. My direct questions are going ignored and people are instead choosing to repeat that he's a rational and logical person as if doing so will somehow make it true.

It seems to me like the very same people who claim that the left are afraid of addressing Peterson's ideas are themselves afraid to engage directly with criticisms when they're presented, and choose to deflect or outright ignore them instead of acknowledging them. It all seems to me like a strategy designed to maintain their perception that Peterson is a rational/logical thinker and that by extension they are too.

What's complicated about one group...

Group...you keep using that word...I do not think it means what you think it means...

And pipe dream, I’ve got a lot of good critiques you’ve posted with videos I have to catch up on. I’m interested to do it but need to find the time. So far all I know about the guy is he was treated ridiculously by an idiot reporter which I watched. If that is why he’s a genius I’m glad to admit the bar was not set high. And I’d call myself open to skepticism about a lot of his positions. And apparently he’s coming to speak in my hometown of Edmonton. Or rather at a bedroom community just outside the city, not necessarily known for hosting a university or being a centre of intellectual activity or a hub of learning or anything. More for being downwind of a bunch of oil refineries so people can own nice suburban homes on the cheap while they enjoy their asthma. They have a really good garden centre though.

Anyway i appreciate the links. At least as far as I’m concerned figuring this guy out will take a bit of time.

I know, and I'm using it entirely in compliance with all reasonable [and provable] parameters.

And BINGO was his name-o

I have no Pomeranian.

I have never been to therapy.

But If I did I would PAY for it myself and not expect strangers to do so.
