Hiya guys. Does anyone know what script JUB is using for its front page etc? The forum looks lik vbulletin. I've seen similar front pages on other wbsites but have no idea what its called

Yeh I did check the cource code, but vbulletin is just the acctual forum script(i think), I'm talking about the whole cms

Thanks for the reply, but thats just the server set up that acctualy runs the script :(

Sorry dude - I'm not a web developer sort - I just remembered that post from a few weeks back. Maybe Corny or another mod/admin will get back to ya.

I know that Corny was talking about Ajax a couple of months back and I see that referenced all over the place (I know that's not the answer either) but again as I said I'm not a web developer I just know a bit about it (a little knowledge is a dangerous thing).

You could always PM them.

edit: I thought that MySQL (and php) were CMS systems in and of themselves?

I presume if they have MySQL servers they'll be using them to deliver the portal content as well.

MySQL is a database system (think M$ Access but 100000 times better). PHP is a server side scripting language. They are very often used together to create dynamic sites. A CMS is a system to organise site content. It gives a control panel which allows content to be easily added without having to know the code behind it. A CMS would be written in PHP and have its own MySQL database.

Whatever the JUB site uses, it is very well put together and the admins deserve a big well done! ..|

Sorry don't mean to hijack the thread - but how do vBulletin and such make money when their software is like 2mb? I just did a torrent search for it and it's all over the place - I downloaded it four times in ten minutes (for research purposes of course). Do they scour the web looking for people using it and then check to see if it has been paid for? What if you bought it from a 3rd party? Dunno - just wondering.

I haven't much experience in vB but other scripts I have used require a type of serial code, which you pay for. And sometimes they display ugly messages to users if the script hasn't been paid for. And I don't mean the "powered by xxxx". ;)

the index page is a mix of moveable type, phpadsnew, and our own CMS. But the bulk of that section is moveable type. The forum is vbulletin, but not the profiles, galleries, homepages.. that is all custom. The eye candy / site reviews is all custom.

p.s. Sorry if I seem off with anyone (more than usual) I have an exam in Political Sociology tomorrow at 2pm and I'm so not prepared for it (I know - I spent the day here instead of studying so it's my own fault).

Good luck!!! ..| I'm sure it will be fine. :-)

Yeah, I've emptied the cache and reloaded the site and it downloads the favicon again.
