JUB's Friday Night Way-Back Music Machine

A maudlin mood I am in this Saturday, I am grateful for this thread.

Glen Campbell doing a beautiful sendup of Roy Orbison:

Definitely a slow dance.

He is a cutie.

No, I haven't see the one where Cass sings to Smothers. He was a riot though.

Before I present Tommy and Cass, here's a little bit of background about Anne Murray's song, 'You Needed Me'. The song was composed by Randy Goodrum who recorded it on a cassette tape to send to Anne. Randy played a guitar and sang the vocals. Anne was constantly receiving submissions and she listened to each and every one of them. It was late at night and she was exhausted when she listened to Randy's tape. She hated it and tossed it aside. A few days later, she had second thoughts, thinking that she hadn't given the song a fair chance, and listened to it again. It grabbed her attention this time and she knew it was a song well-suited to her.

The rest is history.

So now, here is Cass Elliot and Tommy Smothers on 'The Smothers Brothers':

He was such a charming doofus.

I wonder how much money Murray made off that song. She was so popular.

I didn't know both the Smothers brothers had married three time each. Celebrities.

Please forgive me everyone as I'm having one of my "Guardians of the Galaxy" flashback spells.

Yes, it's back to high school with Eddie, yet again, with an old favorite:

Have I a hope or half a chance....to even ask if I can dance with you... :luv2:

I'm surprised someone else knows who Hurricane Smith is. I have his album.

I wonder how much money Murray made off that song. She was so popular.

She was extremely popular up here. Her concerts are always sold out. What kind of fan base did she have in the States?

Taco, anyone? (This is the 'safe' version. The uncensored 'blackface' version is available on YouTube.)

The New Vaudeville Band (For some reason, the idiot who posted this video cut the end short, but it was the best version I could find.)

Wrong day, but good song

Since EddMarkStarr mentioned John Williams's Star Wars, I thought I'd go back a decade or so to something from his early career in TV show themes:

Also from the same era:
