Request for a stay on paying the judgment in 30 days mandated in Engoron's decision?

Denied!

Meanwhile, interest accrues at nearly $88,000 per day. Tick Tock.

The judge who ordered former President Donald Trump to pay $354 million in fines, and nearly $100 million in interest, in his civil fraud case in New York denied a request from Trump's lawyers to delay formalizing his decision.

In an email to Trump's legal team and lawyers from the New York Attorney General's Office on Thursday, Judge Arthur Engoron of the New York State Supreme Court said he would sign a judgment proposed by the state that finalizes his ruling.

"You have failed to explain, much less justify, any basis for a stay," he wrote, addressing Trump attorney Clifford Robert. "I am confident that the Appellate Division will protect your appellate rights."

Meanwhile,, Trump is desperately trying to get Eric Trump's wife into the fundraising game at the RNC so that he can misdirect donor money to help save his sinking ship.

Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law and handpicked choice to help lead the Republican National Committee said she thinks Republican voters would support having the political organization pay the former president’s ballooning legal fees.

Lara Trump said Wednesday while campaigning for her father-in-law ahead of the South Carolina primary that she was not familiar with the RNC’s rules about paying Donald Trump’s legal fees in a multitude of criminal and civil cases.

But she said she thought the idea would get broad support among GOP voters who see his legal cases as political persecution.

Love it. Best news today.

I also heard mention that Trump's Go-Fund-Me page has been attracting a lot of 'fake' donors? How would that work? I'm not at all familiar with the process.

Probably shills who are posting $5 donations to try to get other real people to donate.

And a close #2:

Judge says Mike Lindell must pay $5 million to man who won his 'Prove Mike Wrong' challenge

A federal judge is giving MyPillow founder and election denier Mike Lindell 30 days to pay a $5 million arbitration award for losing his “Prove Mike Wrong” 2020 election challenge.

The decision Wednesday by a judge in Minneapolis affirmed an arbitration panel’s ruling last year that Lindell has to pay up for losing his own 2021 contest challenging experts to prove that data he had in his possession was not from the 2020 election.

The arbitration transcript is bizarre. Mike Lindell is truly delusional and paranoid.

They need to be pressuring GoFundMe to follow their own Terms of Service:

Without limiting the foregoing, you agree and represent, warrant and covenant:

A. not to use the Services to raise funds or establish or contribute to any Fundraiser with the implicit or explicit purpose of promoting or involving:

1. the violation of any law, regulation, industry requirement, or third-party guidelines or agreements by which you are bound, including those of payment card providers and transaction processors that you utilize in connection with the Services;
2. fundraisers that are fraudulent, misleading, inaccurate, dishonest or impossible;

8. User Content that reflects, incites or promotes behavior that we deem, in our sole discretion, to be an abuse of power or in support of terrorism, hate, violence, harassment, bullying, discrimination, terrorist financing or intolerance of any kind reflects an abuse of power relating to race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, disabilities or diseases;
9. the legal defense of alleged financial and violent crimes;

13. the aggregation of funds owed to third parties, factoring, or other activities intended to obfuscate the origin of funds;

I'm honestly surprised that GoFundMe hasn't gotten a letter from the NY Attorney General's office.

^ Thanks. The only thing I remember is a woman who claimed to have had cancer and was asking for donations for treatment. She was caught out and got into serious trouble.

There is nothing about Toad that is not fraud. From the fundraising numbers to the tangerine hide. All of it is just lies.

EXCEPT the bigotry and petty nastiness.

That's why they follow him.

The final judgment has been signed. With interest, the $355 million judgment is now over $450 million.

Because of the increase in the amount, the daily interest accrual will increase compound and by my estimates, this means the daily interest will be over $100K per day... or 250 Trump sneakers per day.

And Trump will post an appeal bond, meaning that he will have to only ante up about 10% of the total.

No sweat.

That should have happened immediately; the longer he waits, the more likely he'll be denied.

Toad is in a bind, if he admits he can't pay the bond, he admits being a fraud, and if he isn't a fraud, he can pay the bond.

Catch 22

From my understanding, there are two types of release bonds: one is before the judicial decision and the other is after the decision.

When someone is charged with a crime, they can post a percentage of their bail in the form of a bond until the trial. They are innocent until proven guilty, so the bond serves the purpose of ensuring that they will show up for the trial.

Once they are found guilty, they have to pay the fine assessed by the judge or escrow that amount in the form of a bond before they can appeal their judgment. That means that Trump has to produce at least $450 million in cash or property liens in order to appeal. There is no "percentage" like in the pre-trial bond because at this point, Trump has been found guilty and has to satisfy the judgment in order to appeal it.

I recall reading that when Trump appealed the first Carroll judgment of $5 million, he placed $5 million into an escrow account in order to appeal the decision.

Almost anybody with his properties could pay the bond.

We have no idea what kind of shadiness is tied up with his properties. It's looking more and more like he can't.

His lawyer will go to the court and say that requiring a bond itself is unconstitutional, and someone is going to then have to tell them no. It's a stupid argument but it does what Toad is after anyway - delay.

Toad is not playing to win anything at all; he's just stalling. He thinks that from the White House, he can punish everyone and make them hurt.

He'll throw every ridiculous thing at the court and force the court to deal with it before anyone sees a penny for any reason - until some judge finally just orders a lien and takes his property.

Then he'll start howling all over again and tell the horde to go murder the judge.

That is what we are dealing with. There is no plan, no reason, no sanity, just criminality, bigotry, and violence that has no guardrail. He will literally say anything and order the horde to do anything. It's past time to stop dealing with Toad like he's not a madman.

Sadly, I agree with this cynical take.

Trump is trying the "Presidential immunity" thing in the Top Secret stolen documents case. He's trying to convince Judge Cannon that since Presidents have Presidential immunity and Trump stole the documents when he was President, he's immune to prosecution for stealing Top Secret documents.

For the record: it's an admission. "I stole the documents but I was President when I did it".

But it sets up another Supreme Court case as to whether Presidents can steal documents as long as they're President which is another round of delays.

All of this points to something that a lot of us have been saying for a while: the justice system favors people who have money and can hire expensive lawyers.

There's stories about a backlash against Lara Trump's RNC campaign because she said that the RNC needs to cover Trump's legal troubles. Now, they're saying Trump's PACs will pay for his legal costs. How it is that PAC money can be used to pay personal legal bills without it being considered income is a loophole that is begging for Congress or the IRS to close?

Is is outrageous that PAC money can be used in this way but I think you’re being generous calling it a loophole which suggests this is somehow an unintended consequence. Congress will never address this so let’s cross fingers and hope the IRS or the FEC are paying attention.

So far, no.

Their attempt to delay the judgment by 30 days failed.

It looks like they're trying to appeal but they haven't come up with the money. The compounded interest continues to accrue at 9% - about $100K per day. Meanwhile, the State of New York is no doubt accumulating a list of his properties that they are preparing to start seizure.

Yeah, I'm kinda confused as well. I think it's possible that when he blamed that baba woman and then refused to pay her - he scared off even passable counsel.

That or the crazy has gotten so bad he's living officially on Pluto.
