Hey everyone,

My 24th birthday was last week. And, I came out to my parent's tonight as we had my birthday celebration (my siblings live abroad). I'm only in my parent's city for 3 days (today is day 2), so I knew if I was going to do it face-to-face anytime soon, today was my chance.

I told them right after diner. I asked them to sit down and then I spit it out. My dad was really cool, saying "It doesn't change a thing", while my mom just teared up and eventually said, "We'll love you no matter what".

I then went out for 30 minutes to see a different friend, and returned. It got a little crazy then, we sat down at the dinner table and they asked me really awkward questions for about an hour. My mom was clearly pretty upset while my dad had my back and was the voice of reason (while warning me about AIDS and gaybashing, etc).

Overall, I'm glad I did it. I do feel like a weight has been lifted, even though tomorrow morning will definitely be a little awkward.

If you're still thinking about it, DO IT. It's kind of like pulling off a band-aid. And there's really no right time (though I think I timed it pretty well, all things considered).

Good luck, and cheers!

Hahah true about the birthday thing. Ah well, at least I will easily remember the date.

If I had your courage, I'd b out too. I find the coming out process to be synonymous to rebirth, it was great that it happened on ur birthday!!

I came out to my parents when I was 19 4 years ago and it was seriously almost the same story. They had very very similar reactions and it was the best decision of my life. Good luck to you!

Congratulations! Good to hear things went great with your dad and pretty good with your mom. Your mom probably just needs a little time to processing everything and accept it. The important part was "We'll love you no matter what."

Congratulations notherenotnow99! When is your birthday? Mine was the 25th of August. I turned 25 though.

Congrats! Sounds like most coming out stories nowadays.

congratulations!!!

just came out to my parents this year as well... and it was new years day!!! i know they had an idea bout me being gay but it's just that they need confirmation from me. Mom was so cool about it. When i told her i had a crush on someone, she immediately asked me: Do you have a picture? hahaha! and she was like GET MY EYEGLASSES!!! :)

It's such a great feeling!!! :)

yup!!! my siblings know. my brother's fine with it. Very supportive. Even my 2 sisters. :) they were the first to know.
