Bali Memorial, Kings Park, Perth, Western Australia .....
The Bali Memorial was dedicated on Sunday the 12th October 2003 to the memory of civilians, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, sons and daughters, who died as a direct result of an act of terrorism on the Indonesian island of Bali on the 12th of October 2002. As a result, 202 people lost their lives; of these 88 were Australians, 16 from Western Australia.
The memorial is situated on the Eastern side of Fraser Avenue in Kings Park, overlooking the city of Perth and the Swan River, and is designed around the position of the sun on 12 October. On that day at sunrise, the sun’s rays will pass through an opening illuminating a polished bronze panel, set into red Western Australian granite (see pic above). The bronze panel features the 16 names of the Western Australians who died as a result of this act of terrorism. The main viewing platform provides a focused view of the Australian flag, Swan River and the Darling Ranges in the distance.
It is a most beautiful and fitting memorial to all who perished on that tragic Bali night in 2002.
