At least he's out of the red light district! ;)

I used to live there and to be honest it was a great neighbourhood at the time. Lots of students, artists, immigrants, old, young, rich, poor and everything in between made it a very multi-cultural place to live. The red light part of the Spijkerbuurt was contained to just a few streets and it was funny to see the same cars driving around in circles to find a parking space.
And then the dynamics of the neighbourhood changed. People who lived there as students started making money, bought the houses they'd rented, fixed them up, raised families and started objecting to the very things that made them want to live in there in the first place; complained about the fact that the value of their house decreased.

Crime went up as well which was a bigger problem, there was a lot of drug trafficking and abuse and quite a few murders and the county council decided to close the red light district because it attracted the criminal element. It went to court quite a few times and it took 10 years before the judge(s) decided the county council had the right to end window prostitution. As of the 4th of January 2006, they second oldest red light district in Holland is no more (Amsterdam being the oldest). Prostitutes now work somewhere in the industrial estate behind the neighbourhood I live in in what's called "afwerkplekken". Other cities in Holland have adressed the problem in the same way, like Arnhem without much success.

Basically an "afwerkplek" is a place that looks a bit like a garage box where men can park their cars and get serviced. Sorry couldn't find a pic to show you what that looks like and I don't feel like finding the one in Arnhem. ;)

Wow! Those pics are great!

The ones that are "upside down" are amazing! I've never seen that done before. Cool! Чудесно е!

That is one of the most unusual and beautiful mountains I've ever seen.

It's so striking, it almost doesn't seem real! That's a great picture of it.

Thanks - it had rained/snowed but began to clear as we started our hike. I knew we were really lucky when the local trail guide who probably sees this every day starting snapping his own photos. Here's another. btw, this was in March 2005.

That's awesome, where is that?
Most of the pics I post are of that same location from different perspectives: it´s a view of the Lujiazui financial district in Pudong area, Shanghai, from the Bund (swarming with people in that picture) in the opposite Puxi section of the city, the "real", lively part of Shanghai.

Bulgaria uses Cyrillic alphabet which was invented in Bulgaria in the mid 9-th century. This alphabet was later borrowed by other Slavic countries like Russia, Serbia etc. But nowadays of course, Roman is also used but not officially, just in some specific cases.

You can learn about Cyrillic alphabet here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyrillic
